Article: Cut speed limit: Minister

The laws are enforced in aus. The people don't drive faster because they get caught every time and are fined everytime then loses their license.

We met ausies that has never driven faster than 120 ever and has only once been a bit tipsy when driving.

The important part of the law is enforcing it.

This.

The only time you'll see a speed cop / traffic police is when they're doing the Scandinavian troll thing under some bridge, pulling people over, checking licences etc.

And the odd one or two with a speed camera.

But never will you see the traffic police policing at intersections etc where the taxi's run amok.

Every morning without fail I see at least 1 taxi driving in the oncoming traffic lane to skip traffic. Speeding has nothing to do with it. Total disregard for the rules of the road, and a police force too scared to do anything about it. Who remembers the uproar from the taxi industry when the cops started impounding all the unroadworthy vehicles? Suddenly taxis and taxi drivers were "targets and victims". We all know there's a huge problem here, but until someone grows a set nothing will be done.

It frustrates the sh¡t out of me when the best the so-called clever people in transport can conjure up is a speed restriction. All that will happen is they'll spend more resources on extorting the public with speed cameras and the deaths will continue

Who drives the R21? Those idiots run over the highway where the cops sit. And the cops just sit there  this causes many deaths not only to the jay walker but people slamming into each other trying to avoid it. And the cops just sit there. Or shoul I say sleep.

Yes there is a pathway underneath the road but they do not use it. Probably due to crime why did they not build one when they fixed the road?

And then I think of the many overhead walkways pedestrians ignore and I wonder why bother lazy futures are lazy.

ppffffssshh dropping the speed limit will do nothing. As others have said, ENFORCE the law!

And then I think of the many overhead walkways pedestrians ignore and I wonder why bother lazy futures are lazy.

Most pedestrians these days don't even use the sidewalks made for them!

Why not hand out bicycles while we are at it? Studies have shown that if everyone rides a bicycle then there is almost no fatalities.

* It will make for a more fit police force
* Ministers and their convoys will also benefit (tandems will be in fashion again)
* No more pollution, or rather, much less.
* No more petrol taxes

I should have been the transport minister I tell you.
:D

Hes not there cause of merit dude
Not a single ANC minister is there because they're competent in their position

Let them cut the speed.

Deaths will still continue - especially when taxi's "ignore" the speed limit and still continue merrily at high speed...

Unfortunately we will still be involved should said taxi crash into your car... :(

Only now we'll also have the added benefit of talking ages to get anywhere and getting to enjoy even less of the cars we work so hard for and pay super inflated south African prices for.

It's the retarded gun licensing scam all over again.

Seeing as we are all Ministers of transport, here is my solution:

All public transport vehicles are chipped to set a limit of 80KM/h.
All public transport vehicles are subject to GPS tracking.
All public transport vehicles must be painted a colour, say green.

All non-emergency (personal) vehicles are chipped to 120KM/h speed limit.

All emergency vehicles have a unique number plate to identify non-chipped vehicles.
All emergency vehicles are subject to GPS tracking.

Any public transport vehicle found to break the above rules (removed chip, not green, no GPS data on location/speed) - the vehicle is confiscated and crushed, driver is charged with attempted murder for each person in his vehicle, taxi owner pays R30K to each of the passengers in acknowledgement of endangering their lives.

Any personal vehicle that has a removed/altered and is caught speeding is fined R10K for the chip, and R1K for every KM over the speedlimit he is going.

Drunk driving over the limit: Any passengers and you get charged with attempted murder, you are charged R1K for every % you are over the legal limit.

Of course, enforcing all this the problem.

Solve the speeding problem and the unemployment problem with one solution.

Every vehicle to have a man (or woman) walking in front with a red flag.

Dunno if anyone herd this a@shole on etv news this morning. What a joke - he has no idea. When the presenter put forward a point of view he conveniently didn't get the last part and then answered way off the point made fkkn idiot

Um, no. Bat**** insanity is the problem. 1984 much?

Many of the roads in KZN is already limited to 100Km/h. Should be interesting to see whether accidents are less on these roads.
IMHO I don't think so.
Speed maybe kills but Reckless driving causes the accident in the first place.

Speed doesn't kill.

Coming to sudden stop does :D.

In all seriousness, these proposals are complete BS.

They are going to lead to more congestion!
