Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele is to ask Cabinet to reduce the top speed limit from 120km/h to 100km/h. "There are increasing calls and signs that something drastic needs to be done to arrest the current situation," Ndebele said in a statement on Tuesday.

This is crazy. There is already a speed limit of 100km/h on taxis and buses. Al they need to do is to enforce the current laws.

Studies conducted in other countries such as Australia where the speed limit is 110 km/h indicate that a reduction in speed limit can save lives.

Ban alcohol. Lower the speed limit to 80. Ban old folks from driving. Ban cars older than 5 years from being on the road. I bet this will lower the fatal accidents we have on our roads.

I wouldn't put any faith in the results of these studies, even if they exist.

The laws are enforced in aus. The people don't drive faster because they get caught every time and are fined everytime then loses their license.

We met ausies that has never driven faster than 120 ever and has only once been a bit tipsy when driving.


The important part of the law is enforcing it.
