Article: DA predicts ANC hammering in 2014

South Africa's opposition Democratic Alliance plans to give the ruling ANC a serious black eye in the 2014 elections by winning up to 30 percent of the vote, a party leader has told AFP.

"We are aiming for 30 percent," said Lindiwe Mazibuko, the DA's parliamentary leader and the woman tipped by many to one day lead the opposition.

Lol 30% is not quite a black eye, but good enough for a third party to step in and eat the rest of the ANC excess.
 
30% for the ANC would be a black eye if the other parties stay at a similar percentage to the 2009 elections.

It would put the ANC down to just over 50% of the vote, and make this country look alot more democratic than it currently does.

Are you referring to the 2nd part of the post which DOESN'T say where the idea the ANC will get 30% comes from. How does that answer my question?
 
Stupid prediction. Not going to happen this next election...maybe only in 2024. The DA's large jump in numbers is mainly due to the consolidation of the white vote (from 1999, when it was the DP). It will be much harder now to get that next 13%.
 
Its a decent stretch goal. 2009 the DA got 16.7%, 2011 they got 23.8%. So in 2 years they increased their share by 7%. The DA stole those votes from other parties not exclusively the ANC unfortunately. Now that most of the minnows are out of the game it will be interesting to see what happens as if the DA can steal another 6% from the ANC it would mean the ANC is down to 55% or so. For that to happen though would require a lot of black voters to switch sides which will be the real test.

Personally I predict the DA will get between 26% and 28% but 30% would be wonderful.
 
I don't think much will change wrt the ANC votes compared to last time.

I am conservatively hoping the DA break 20% this election... much more than that I don't know.
 
I'm hoping they win the Gauteng province in the next regional, combined with the Western Cape they set themselves up for massive future victories if they fix the province.
