Article: DA's plan to win Gauteng a pipe dream: ANC

Even if they don't manage to win, I bet they will make big gains. That will set them up to take over Tshwane and Johannesburg in the next local elections. IMO of course.
 
Voted ANC? Ha, starve while I watch eating my delicious steak dinner.

I used to give to beggars long ago but stopped, ANC supporters can starve and die!

Last municipal elections for Tshwane in 2011 ANC got 55.32% and DA got 38.65% and this despite incorporating 3 or 4 smaller municipalities with largely black populations. 2006 the ANC got 56.35% and the DA got 30.69%.

Now about Gauteng as a province:
2009 - ANC got 64.04 % and the DA got 21.86%
2004 - ANC got 68.40 % and the DA got 20.78%

So the DA is closer to winning Tshwane than the province, but it will be interesting to see how the provincial percentages will change later this year.

EDIT: Did a quick check on JHB, ANC fell 4% to 58.56 % in 2011, DA rose 7% to 34.62 %

As someone who's lived in the Western Cape for the last 39 years and regularly travels to Gauteng I can honestly say they don't know what the **** they are taking about. GFY cANCer :)
 
The usual mudslinging but I have to agree. No way is the DA taking Gauteng anytime soon.
 
DA doesn't really want GP just yet - if they get it, they will fail on the promise of doing away with e-tolls and lose huge support in the long run.

I still think they are after eastern cape more than GP right now.

They have a better chance of winning Gauteng than the Eastern Cape. They're 3rd in EC and second in GP, unless the Cope voters move to the DA in the EC they have no chance. I don't see why the people who voted Cope would vote for them there.
 
Whist I cannot see it happening sadly, the ANC support will drop. Only the sheep will vote for them.
The leader of the ANC is the worst SA has ever had. Really a poor advertisement with too much dirty baggage that needs to be unpacked.

In any democracy he would of been impeached long ago.

Where did you get that info that they were 3rd? I was under the impression they were 2nd and narrowly missed getting the "gem" that is nelson mandela bay...

That was local elections. In the general elections of '09 they're behind COPE. EC is very rural and metro being urban was likely why they did well.

Ok then, I was using numbers from the previous (local) elections, as I feel they are a better showing of support this time round. DA are still miles from winning EC outright but I'm hoping that the distaste Zuma and his Zulu heritage enough to put a huge dent in ANC votes this time round.
 
Part of me really wants the DA to climb off their intellectual high horse and realise that you are dealing with uneducated masses with simple needs. Don't worry about your current middle class supporters - we will still vote for you.

Promise them more than the ANC - double social grants, free houses, free electricity, free schools. I don't care. I will pay extra tax for a few years if they win.

You can't win the hearts and minds of the masses with e-tolls and high level concepts that they don't understand. Fact is, most poor people don't give a damn about Zuma's R200m Nkandla. To them, they can't even appreciate that kind of money. At the end of the day, the ANC in their mind pays their social grant and gave them an RDP house. The will never vote for another party and risk losing those things. The ANC are experts at this grass roots kind of campaigning.

you might but the vast majority won't.

But good luck with the DA making promises they can't deliver on.

Since when has "not delivering on promises" made the slightest difference to Voters? ie: 20 years of ANC rule.
 
One thing I'm 100% sure of though. The DA would never have deployed eTrolling in Gauteng :p
 
Well, I am liking the potential swing vote percentage I am seeing from Gauteng and Northern Cape....if these numbers are credible, inroads are being made...one step forward...
