Article: Farm murders discussion

Agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana and AfriForum met this week to discuss the safety of farmers and people in rural areas, they said in a joint statement on Saturday.

"The Minister was impressed with the steps taken by AfriForum to involve local communities in safety initiatives, and with the decline in crime which has resulted from the initiatives."

Why can't we let go of 'commandos' and rather look at the multitude of security companies out there?

The commandos where government/public partnerships basically, government providing resources (old army transporters for example and other equipment) and the community the manpower, if I understand the system correctly. They also had certain powers allowed by goverment. Will private companies be given the necessary powers for roadblocks and such?

By law they won't and can't. They also have extremely limited powers of arrest and AFAIK no powers of detention.
Another thing .....What happens in an incident where someone is killed.?
Very different rules on the ground for security companies and commandos

Exactly my point.

The government was always uncomfortable with the commando units because they were allegedly infested with racist and therefore had potential to develop into hostile (to the government) armed militia. They also had a political dilemma that they are seen to be expending disproportionate resources to protect a minority when those who suffered the brunt of crime where the majority of the population and they had to make do with regular police.

The ANC stopped it because they didn't want white farmers. It's never been a priority for them. They wanted the control of food out of whites hands.
Believe anything else and you are delusional
They knew and know now that the remaining farmers are sitting ducks and it's just a matter of time.
Sure the commando's may have been racists but they were not going out killing blacks. They served a purpose.
But as usual play the race card

Agreed all crime should be seen as equal.

Now you're moving into tinfoil hat territory. If they wanted primary food production out of white hands they could have simply passed expropriation laws and pursued that aggressively instead of killing them off very very slowly which is what you're implying. How absurd!

They couldn't have this isn't zim. And they know it.
The way they have done it is brilliant.

You're alleging some long con dating back over 10 years. The government have flip flopped so many times on land policy in that time that only a complete lunatic would believe there is some long term strategy transcending multiple admins to facilitate the murder of all white farmers or at best drive them off.

OK, people who are anti-commando-ish systems, we have pointed out the flaws with a private security only reliance, so lets hear your great system?
