Article: Farm murders discussion

OK, people who are anti-commando-ish systems, we have pointed out the flaws with a private security only reliance, so lets hear your great system?
All we need is government to prioritise food security and safety of farmers. They need to realise the importance of farmers and farms in SA. Talking about solutions does nothing. We need action now.

I somehow doubt this is possible.

It is possible but not going to happen as it's political.
They don't care about food security.
They don't care about the farmers.
This is much easier to leave the it as is. It's resolving a political will without forcibly taking land.

The Jewish protection companies appear able to harass people without incurring the wrath of the authorities. So private security could have the rights but farms by their nature are really hard to protect. The best solution would be 24 hour armed guards onsite but that would bankrupt farmers given that a standard armed response wouldn't work as well given the sparse location of farms.

I can assure you it won't work this is war fare not urban crime.
It's very different

They need a military or para military unit there.
Also how can 2 or 3 guards defend against an armed attack with many attackers and superior weaponry?

It would work in 99% of cases because these guys prey on the isolation and relative low security afforded by farms.

It won't work you are dealing with attacks security companies are not equipped to deal with both by training and firepower.
This is warfare it isn't crime that we see in urban situations.
Rural attacks are in no way similar to urban attacks.

The source of the problem is always the same I'm sure, aim for the closest informal settlement between the farm and closest CBD. You will find that they have a higher crime rate but it's unreported.

Or they go to the nearest farm or cbd and commit crime there ?
There isn't anything in the townships worth stealing it's the areas with wealth that are targeted.
Murder and alcohol and drugs maybe but not robbery and theft i wound think

You can't expect the average citizen to care about high crime rates in townships when it's probably people from those townships that are perpetrating crime in their areas.

'Kill the farmer, kill the boer' ring a bell? Hence the attacks on farmers.

Nonsense. Where is the evidence that farm attacks increased during the signing of the song. In fact, there was virtually no farm attacks pre'94 when the song was sung and likely interpreted more literally than Malema's incitement in recent times.

Those days we had law and order and had commando's.
Now the ANC are basically encouraging it and we have no law and order or protection.
The ANC seem to be happy with the status quo

I still say there is a reason Constant Viljoen was assigned to farm protection programs (back in the day) based on intelligence gathering, and that today that reason is playing out.

It wouldn't take much intelligence to work out that farmers living in outlying isolated areas would make for good target by the freedom fighting movements now, would it? It's the same reason all infrastructure in isolated areas had those bullet proof guard towers along with high voltage fencing (all of which are now off because they aren't needed anymore) at all of the power stations.

Sorry, but I don't think all terrorist cadres simply converted upon st. Mandela's saintly utterances and achieving democracy. I believe some did and some did not.

This sons is still being sung. Just another titbit:

"According to Statistics South Africa, in the period between 1993 and 2002, there was a significant decrease in in the number of commercial farming units in South Africa. There were 12 162 less farming units in 2002 than there were in 1993, a decrease of 26%.

The decrease of farming units consequently led to a decrease in employment by the formal agricultural sector by 13, 9%. The Free State Province holds the highest number of commercial farming units as of 2002 stats."

Obviously this trend is continuing.

This is utter rubbish.

The fact that farmers are being targeted is purely because they are the biggest source of money for like 25km around.

Its opportunism.

Farm attacks do not even make up 1 percent of national attacks/murders.

Yes every murder is one too many but these are not racially motivated as many claim and they are not politically motivated either.

Explain why in the EC we have black farmers being murdered and their wives being raped over a few weapons or some liquor from their pantry?
