Article: Gareth Cliff arrest welcomed

The arrest of radio DJ Gareth Cliff for speeding was welcomed on Thursday by Gauteng's community safety MEC.

"By excessive speeding, the motorists are not only putting their lives in danger, but also endangering other road users," MEC Faith Mazibuko said in a statement.

The case was postponed to March 15 because there was an inquiry into whether his licence should be suspended. The case will continue in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court.

Hi5.
I'm glad they are actually doing something about this. Let's hope that they don't just give him a slap on the wrist.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of this at the end of day.

My guess is he will get slapped with a hefty fine and that will be the end of it.

I think he is a tool, some time in prison tossing some salads would be a fitting punishment.

All speesters should get arrested, all pirates should be fined, all people who waste their bosses' time should have a disciplinary, yada yada.

L Jackson got off, Zuma got off, leave the one oke i like listening to in the mornings alone :p

Just because those scum got off, it doesn't mean that this scum should too.

he's admited that he was a twat and will pay the fine, and is sorry and that people shouldn't do it. what more can he do? people don't get arrested for speeding, they get fined and have their license revoked

And what about the blue light brigades?

I would agree if that came from a layman, but coming from a government official is hypocritical with their blue light convoys.

I call byllshyte on this whole event.

This was staged. How would a TV crew be there just by accident to catch Cliffy in the act and even film him being arrested?

This shyte was staged. And it digusts me that they did this on the road with other people traveling on the road as well.

Ah FFS! Just apply the law consistently for everyone. I don't see the value in "making an example" out of someone who is a public figure when the laws are not applied in the same way to everyday citizens who break the law at will.

Fksakes man! If the cops stopped hiding in the bushes taking pictures so they could send people love letters and actually got out there and did what they are paid to do, we wouldn't have the problems that we do on our roads.

People have been caught going faster than that and not been arrested. If it's going to be an arrestable offence then always do it that way. I can't believe people are advocating different application of laws because they personally think someone is a tool
