Article: Harry Potter is back

I once read that some movie execs actually wanted Harry not grow up in the story, and stay the same age.
Probably same guys that tried to buy the rights to Terry Pratchett's Reaper Man, but didn't want the main character to be Death.

Money talks. So they can probably coax the billionaire with another billion or two to write more Harry Pothead

There are two other movies coming, but they are not related to this.
This is just a short section on Harry Potter.
The movies are based on sideline sections of the Harry Potter Universe.
They will not feature any of the prior movie's stars.

Harry Potter is over, but there is an easy movie prequel trilogy entitled something like "The Elder Wand Scrolls", existing in the story between Dumbledore and the Dark Wizard Grindelwald, when Dumbledore won the Elder wand which culminates in a final battle in 1945.
Its the classic 2 friends, love , betrayal, dark forces v light, good versus evil , freedom versus fascism all rolled into one, set against the backdrop of pre WW2 , through the War until the end in 1945.

Thanks Gary

Most of the movies were just average, the movies only got good near the end when the story darkened (no pun).

Those so-called average movies are raking in the fans and money. I say, if they are anything as good as the first 7 stories, I want more!

Really? WTF, to echo another recent thread, is wrong with people?

As far as I'm concerned, Pratchett's work is of a much higher quality that Rowlings'. The pedestrian writing style of the latter put me off her work completely.

Popularity is not a measure of quality. That said the books are very good. All of them.

Harry was very sad that the Sorting Hat placed him in Brazil.

Box office figures aren't usually an indication of a good movie. Do not forget that the Transformers series grossed over $3 billion.

No, but the latest "Transformers" movie is the highest grossing movie in Japan's box office history. A good movie for Hollywood (or any other) is a financial success story, otherwise they need to rely on digital and rental income to make the production viable.

The movies were decent and watchable but I must say that they were a bit of a let down after reading the books. I really enjoyed the books more.

also it was the series that got my son into reading and now when he reads he is a like a freight train going through books. so always will be grateful to JK Rowling for that.

You have touched on a couple of things from my perspective as an English teacher.

Firstly, a movie is very seldom "as good as the book" as one's imagination outstrips Hollywood every time. :D

Secondly, I think many English teachers and parents will be eternally grateful to J K Rowling for getting their kids into reading, where it suddenly became "cool" to read - I was running our Media Centre at the time, and there was a massive increase in books being taken out of the library once the kids became hooked on Harry! They were suddenly not afraid of thick books, and also discovered that using one's imagination could be quite an adventure!

The cool kids were the ones who were reading goosebumps, the hardy boys (I favoured Nancy Drew more) way before HP enticed the other lot to read :P

Please stop with the ''the books were better than the movies'' line. We know that by now. A movie simply cannot be 100% faithful to the book due to time constraints. A 700-page Harry Potter novel takes the average reader a few days to get through. Do you have a few days to watch a movie? Movies are always the condensed version with character modifications as certain characters are broken up with their parts added to others or new characters are created to fulfill the roll of multiple characters from the book.

The movies did a great job of the books and I remain a fan of both tbh.
