Article: In SA voting is meaningless: adults

Two-fifths of the adult population in South Africa think that voting is meaningless, according to a survey by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) released on Thursday.

In 2013 it found that 43 percent (two-fifths) of people agreed with the statement "voting is meaningless because no politician can be trusted", the council said in a statement.
 
That's cos they are lazy and won't get off their fat arses to go out and make a difference.

I agree.

Out of all the people at my work only 3 will be voting.

But I know of many more that won't be voting and no amount of trying to convince them will help either.
 
Partially it's kinda useless because it's usually rigged in some way and partially the process simply a pain in the behind. Is it any wonder widespread apathy has set in?

Next time any of those that don't vote bitch about anything the government does just remind them of the fact that they forfeited their right to complain by not voting

How is it a pain to vote ?

A lot of people moan about the queues, but since I have been able to vote the queues have never been a problem.

Most of the time the voting stations are completely empty and in the cases where there is a queue it usually moves pretty fast.

They all lose their right to bitch about the state of things... They didn't use their opportunity to try and change things...

Especially when people have a whole day off in which to do it.

Rigged how? Yes their are irregularities, but the overall result is not rigged. And how is it a pain in the behind... Take Id book, stand in queue for max an hour (on a day that's been given to you to do so no less) make a mark on a piece of paper and then enjoy the rest if the day off. I personally see it as a fair trade. And hour or so of my life so that you can have the rest of the day to chill.

And our system makes every vote count. Don't be lazy, it does not take much effort to vote.
 
There are a lot of places where voting takes place all day and yet at the end the queue is still as long as it started and thousands of people don't actually get to vote, this happens every year, not everyone has as good a voting experience as you do.

I hardly count voters with fake ID's being bussed around or widespread "voting violence" and intimidation "irregularities". There are now even "minor wars" between factions that have popped up with lot's of assassinations or such attempts that are made to look like normal crime. And remember in some areas voting can be downright dangerous because of voting stations getting petrol bombed or otherwise attacked for some reason or another.

Add to that the fact that most of the populace are illiterate brainwashed morons and no vote from the rest of us can possibly make a proper difference. Personally I just hope that whatever inevitably hits the fan this time does not hit me. I will vote but that will mostly be a matter of continence, if you don't even give token effort you have no right to say anything.

Lastly there are also the various smaller groups that are completely boycotting the process for various self righteous reasons.

The outcome of the municipal elections is decided years before the election by the election rigging board, who's sole mandate is to manipulate municipal boundaries to the benefit of the ANC. Alberton has an 80% DA majority, and yet it's [mis]ruled by the ANC.

The president is decided months before the election at the last ANC national meeting. All that's left is for the gullible, [intentionally] uneducated masses to bussed in to the polling stations to put their X next to the picture of Zuma.

That's quite a hateful view of the majority of the people.

The idea that if one does not vote one has no right to say anything is total BS. Being a citizen or even a permanent resident and (but not exclusively) paying TAX is enough justification.
 
I'm still not sure who I will vote for. I'm honestly considering a troll or spoiled vote.

Gerrymandering can happen at a local level but not national. Also, constiuancy based voting which leads to gerrymandering is being pushed by the DA.

The leader of majority party becoming president, that's simply our system. It is an odd one, only Botswana and we use it but it's been that way since 1983 when PW became president.
 
I suppose its too much to ask that they are ANC supporters? Probably spoilt middle and/or upper class who complain all the time.
