The "absurd backlash" in my opinion is purely because he has lied about it.

If he stood up and said "I did it because I was paid to do it, and I need to feed myself and my family", then all is good.

agreed. He shouldn't have said ANC is experiencing teething problems. Just say "happy to be here and sing."
 
Why are people upset. They should be happy that he sullied the occasion with his awful musiek.
 
I think it sad that Darren must get skel because he did just do his job the racis people must know aparthate is over and you must move on in the times thank you

Oh men, if there was no Afrikaans singer then they would have complained about that as well. I just hope that those that made those hateful comments have not done any business with any government institution because then they will be hypocritical apart from being hateful.
 
What's the big deal honestly,you live in this country and you all live under Zuma's rule,you don't have to like the man to sing at your countries presidential inauguration party,especially if you are also getting paid for it.

I hate Kurt Darren musiek and Zuma too,but honestly there's no big deal here. What's up with people wishing his baby (and he) was stillborn,that's just sick.We should celebrate our differences and learn to better integrate in this country.Polarising of the country has been done for long enough by the Nats and Afrikaners with this kind of attitude for a simple integration like singing at the countries inauguration celebrations give the pro BEE numb nuts even more ammunition because you are showing you don't want to be a part of building a better country together.

You want your children to also suffer BEE,then go ahead and resist forming alliances with the different races we have.While you are at it you might as well go live in Orania.

That's a bit strong, but I get your point.

It wouldn't be selling your soul for people to just go a little with the flow for the sake of the country. I think it's common knowledge that Zuma isn't worth much as a leader. But before this under Mbeki there was the same hateful rhetoric. Even when Mandela was in charge the same thing. Actually especially during Mbeki the country took great strides forward. So before I say the "shocking" thing I'm going to say next I want to make this clear : I did not vote for the Anc and I'm not blind to the many, many faults of their governing rule...but...

The Anc are not nearly as bad as what they would have to be to ACTAULLY deserve the level of hate thrown at them at times by certain groups. In order for a government to make me wish death upon them and their family and call them all sorts of disgusting names they'd have to have done more wrong than the following things during their "rule" :

Only growing the economy at a moderate rate.
Violent crime having been brought down to just very bad instead of worst in the world.
Making people in general actually poorer, rather than richer as they have done.
Having reclaimed a tiny proportion of the land
Having put into place the most token of incentives for hiring "prveviously disadvanted people"
Having given to water and power to only around 90% of people up from less than 50%
Etc

I can see how each one of those have aspects which standing alone can annoy people and some which are outright wrong and short signed and devisive. BUT...I don't see anything that's absolutely so terrible that just to associate with them means your unborn children must be inflicted with disease etc. Perhaps some sense of perspective people ?

A failure to acknowledge that the Anc is no better or no worse than the above, and then still to insist you absolutely wish death on anyone associating them leads to believe that your hatred for them has got less to do with politics and more to do with social and ethnic identity.

South Africa despite many problems has made solid progress and we can be proud as South Africans of the gains made, while fighting patriotically with the best interests of everyone involved to ensure that this progress continues. I want to stay and be part of the future.

South Africa has had 20 years to be perfect. It has not achieved that. I blame the Anc and hate them and I will tell everyone that South Africa is a dying hell hole. I knew this is what would happened if we allow Africans to rule themselves ! I want to leave this hopeless dump where everything just gets worse every day ! This is Africa !

Which person sounds more rational ?

But if asked by your colleagues why you did it, would you concoct some story about "representing the Afrikaaner culture or whatever" or just tell the truth and say you did it for the paycheck?
