Article: Lexus driver arrested for speeding

A man was arrested for speeding on the N1 highway near old Johannesburg Road in Pretoria on Saturday, the Gauteng Traffic Police's High Speed Unit said.

The 42-year-old was arrested in his Silver Lexus just before 3pm driving at an average speed of 199km/h in a 120km/h zone, spokeswoman Busaphi Nxumalo said.

You can drive 199km/h in many cars these days.

Why is it necessary to mention Lexus by name. It's not as if it's a Ferrari. And even then ... it's a stupid heading.

Probably because the first question everyone will ask is what car he was driving :D

same reason they mention taxi

Lose license, massive fine and six months in jail would be justice....

I hit 175km/h in a piffy little Fiat 500C 1.2L convertible on the way to East London this past December. I only speed when the road is open for me, not with lots of traffic - should I be locked up?

Like driving down the wrong side of the road is a victimless "crime"

Driving a 1.2 Fiat should be enough punishment. :p

Whether it's a harmless crime or not - it's still breaking the law.

If I was el presidente for life then yes. Despite your superhuman ability to know the road is "open for you" over the next hill.

yes

My brother borrowed my Mini Cooper and was caught on a camera doing 180km/hr outside Worcester. I got a call the next day from the Public Prosecutor and told her my brother had borrowed the car and was in Barrydale and gave her his phone number. I believe it cost him R1200,00.

And cube his car.
Which mean he will not be able to buy a car in his name. Fines doesn't discourage anybody.

This really appears to be the case, maybe crushing a person's car will help get the message through. That, or either repossess and sell them at an auction (somehow blocking the original owner from re-registering the car, ofc, doesn't prevent a friend from registering the car and the original owner using it). But if they can't even get eNatis and AARTO right, I doubt that they would be able to administer something like this.

You do know this is a 1.2L and by the time I am half way up the next hill my speed has reduced to 120km/h anyway? :p
