Article: Lexus driver arrested for speeding

I hit 175km/h in a piffy little Fiat 500C 1.2L convertible on the way to East London this past December. I only speed when the road is open for me, not with lots of traffic - should I be locked up?

I drove my BMW 3L Twin Turbo 335i Convertible within speed limits on the way to East London on 22nd December 2012. It was not with lots of traffic.

- On N1 from JHB-Bloem, a blue BMW 320d overtook me like a bullet. Less than 10min later, near Ventersburg, it was lying on the side of the road, roof flat after rolling. Other cars were involved.

- Yes, I think people who speed should be arrested.

Ah, so you got stuck in that horrible detour by Ventersburg when there was a moerse accident? Did you also get stuck behind the army convoy going back from the ANC indaba in Bloem?

I got overtaken by many BMW's - flying past 5 cars at a time they were, and on blind rises.

I appreciate that some of you get upset with reckless driving, and some of you view speeding as reckless. I don't overtake on blind rises, or on corners, nor do I tailgate people. I also don't speed around corners, or up blind rises, because I know some moegoe is going to be doing something silly coming the other way.

When I speed, there is a clear path ahead of me - that isn't reckless IMO. If I get a fine, I'll take it like a man.

The guy was driving at 199km/hr average. So that is reckless as I assume it wasn't always a straight and open road.

Its not impressive that he did 199km/h in a Lexus what would have been impressive would be:

"Nissan Champ driver does 199km/h average & evades police"

Really pleased you're not any where near my roads.

Speed should never be condoned, never be bragged about. Ever.

...maybe crushing a person's car will help get the message through. That, or either repossess and sell them at an auction

If the person actually owns the car, this might be a deterrent. What do you suggest in the case where a car is financed and is actually owned by a bank? Crushing or selling the bank's property for a crime their client has perpetrated is not going to be just.

She said the man could not provide any reason for driving so fast after returning from a friend. He said he did not realise he was speeding.
LOL!

same reason they mention taxi

No, not the same. Taxis are consistently driving badly and notorious for their behaviour and lack of respect for the rules of the road. Lexus drivers are not consistently known to speed. Almost any car can do 199 nowadays.

No

And not all the members of this forum are speedfreaks

Never ever? Allright then, if you say so. And you don't need to be a speed freak, just now I drove 90 in a 60 zone. Just keeping with the flow of traffic, dual carriage way with a 60 limit for some reason. It's just pretty amusing how everyone balks at the notion of speeding, and claim they never ever break the speed limit. LOL
