Article: Million Marijuana March

Thousands of Czechs and Slovaks demonstrated Saturday in their capitals for the decriminalization of marijuana and other cannabis products.

Gathering under the slogan "Million Marijuana March" - a play on the 1995 Million Man March in Washington DC - the protestors sought to open a public discussion over the criminalization and stigmatization of cannabis products, leaders of the protests told reporters.

i read a comment the other day. something along the lines of "i wish they could just legalise dope already. not because i smoke pot, but because then potheads could actually do something more productive with their time."
sometimes i wish i was born a century later.

marine1, do you accept that prohibition in the 20's was a failure and increased crime?

I smoke it and I am pretty successful. This stigma that potheads have is backwards and false.

In the same regard, cannibas criminalisation increases crime and violence? Do you agree?

I agree of course. If it was not illegal 5 plants in a users home could keep him supplied and negate the needs for gangs and cartels and criminals to manage the supply chain.

No I do not. Yes it makes criminals out of them but it does not increase violence. I know what you are going to say about the war on drugs and that because its illegal, you have a knock on effect of violence.

Exactly. No need to support criminals. Government could supply and they can get tax revenue. Crime goes down for a drug that is really harmless.

Rhino horns, alcohol. If anything history taught us is that banning human demands for such things only creates illegal ways for them to get such things.

Look at Mexico. Look at the drug gangs in America. Theres violence wherever money can be made. What is different from them and the gangsters from the Prohibition era?

So what is next? Legalise it and the next thing arises. Legalise that ....and so on, soon there will be no laws to stop these drugs.
Alcohol and ciggies should also be banned but we all know that's not gonna happen.
We have violence with or without these things so it does not really make that big of a difference IMO.
I really hate discussing this topic.
So make it legal, next the cartels will find something else like weapons to sell. Its all about money and power.

No. Its all about economics.
The only way you change the demand of drugs is incentive. Making it illegal won't make users stop, it only gives incentives for criminals to profit from the demand from users.

Now there's competition between rival suppliers and that's where violence comes in.

I understand your position marine1, a lot of drugs are bad. They don't add anything good to society and it hurts a lot of people but I hope you understand that trying to stop others from doing what they want with their body isn't your right. By making it illegal you only make things worse.

Just stop after marijuana, easy as that. Your kinda exposing kids to dodgy dealers on the streets and the police seems to be more interested in marijuana then the "hard drug" dealers in night clubs.
I know of a person who got almost stabbed while buying marijuana, reported it to the police and got arrested while the drug dealer roamed free.
