Article: New DA pamphlet angers ANC

I find it amusing that the party supported by a majority of forumites here that in other threads refer to Mandela as a terrorist and criminal, is now using him in their campaigns to prove their "struggle" credentials.

I'm pretty sure they're gonna tone down those posts from now on...

Which DA supporter has refered to Mandela as a terrorist ?

I disagree with this. It is the DA's job, as formal opposition to the ruling party, to show up the faults of the ANC. It is their job to be the "Jack Russell" of the political structure. They need to make a noise, and get the public involved whenever and wherever the ANC fail (which is all the time). Without this approach, the country will fall further into abyss. Delivering text books to the children who never received them from DOE, was EXCELLENT - it made the ANC realise where they were failing and to what extent. It was an embarrassment to the ANC, which is a good thing....they will think twice about failing in this area again.

Regarding the picture....the ANC realise it could change the minds of the majority black voters next year - those that are fence sitters, and this is why they are having a wobble. A picture speaks a thousand words, the context of the picture happened, and the ANC need to understand that.

they must be careful to not get stuck in being the opposition to the ANC, that they can't be anything without it. the ANC's only real defining feature is that it opposed apartheid, what is the DA becoming? the party that opposed the ANC?

it was a clever trick the DA pulled, i agree again, it did embarrass the ANC, but once again, at whose expense? if i approach a person knowing that i'll embarrass them, where do my priorities lie? in helping a person or using them as a tool to embarrass this person?

maybe the picture will help, but taking a picture of someone who was in Party A, then who joined party B, then their party changed in Party C and finally after many years their Party joined Party D, is it fair to say that Party D held the beliefs of Party A all along?

to be fair, the staunch and strong DA supporters have never referred to him as a terrorist, the other members calling him a terrorist simply want to vote for anyone besides the ANC, they'd vote for the VF+ if they had a large enough supporter base

The 'DA' have changed their name but kept their policies.

The ANC have kept their name and changed their policies.

Those people are not members. They voters. They dont vote for the DA because they believe in its awesome liberal principles. They vote for the DA because its either the DA, the ANC or a wasted vote on a 1% party. They hate the fact that they have to vote for a liberal party (it really irks them), but unless the FF become more than a 1% party that is normally where their vote ends up.

Those people that you see calling Mandela a terrorist. They are not involved at even the branch level. They are not active members of the party working hard for you. They wouldnt last.

No, The ANC changed their name in the past as well. Or where formed from another organization. Which I had that pamphlet on me.

it has also absorbed every political party along the way to stay a strong opposition. i'm not complaining, the ANC is full of corrupt people who focus on a crony system, i just don't think the DA is much different political wise. if you can stand the propaganda from the ANC, you shouldn't have to stand any propaganda

and the DA supporters are also the most fair and level headed people i've met, though i am meeting more and mroe decent ANC members once i finally get into conversation with people :p
 
The reason the ANC is angry, IMHO, is that they like to encourage the myth that the DA is the old NP revived, ie a bunch of old racist dinosaurs - and the fact that Nelson was friends with one of the founders kindof calls that into question.

The DA people I know are hard working, honest people that are under siege. I work with them in the Eastern Cape. Its almost as hard for a black person to be a DA member here now as it was for a white person to be a member of the Progressive Party during Apartheid. I wrote and article on how "Blue is the new black" on this exact topic.

Mandela also praised Tony Leon on his contributions to the country when he resigned, and said that he admired him. the DA has just changed so many times over the years and absorbed so many different members that i feel like they're an opposition and nothing more to their voters, despite their incredible politicians and method of governance.

So the DA is using a picture of 2 people, neither of whom were ever DA members, and at least one of whom was openly critical of the DA and was a leader of the DA's opposition - to represent the DA. :wtf: This is called politicking - twisting facts to suit your political agenda and is despicable.

The NP left the DP to join the ANC after the whole Piet Meyer (Mayor of cape town) story. Basically Meyer was mayor of Cape Town when the DP and the NNP combined. However Meyer started saying some miff homophobic things and started pushing his religious hangups so he was removed from office by Tony Leon. The DP stayed true and stuck to its liberal policies (even at the cost of losing the NNP support base) .. and this pissed off the conservatives so they quit the DP and went to the ANC.

The PP became the DA dude. Just because there are name changes and amalgamations does not mean we throw away history every time. The DA and its liberal policies are a DIRECT result of the the party that Helen Suzman started and the DA still remains true to those liberal principles she started.
