You need to try harder - I never said she was not a parliamentary member of the DA.
She was never a member of the DA - of any sort. Mandela, and many other retired ANC members, remain members of the ANC, despite being retired, so that's irrelevant.

One would question the principles of someone who remained a member of a party that had strayed so far from its original vision.

Once again, irrelevant. Unless you can show me where either Suzman or Mandela actually vocally endorsed the DA as a party.

You're probably right... Hell man, it might even be worse than: "Even God expects us to rule this country because we are the only organisation which was blessed by pastors when it was formed. It is even blessed in Heaven. That is why we will rule until Jesus comes back." 'cos you know, that's not twisting spiritual belief to suit your political agenda and is in no way despicable at all. :wtf:

Seriously, you would question the principles of Helen Suzman ?

She had more balls than the entire anc cabinet.

Irrelevant. She did not need to. She created the party that we call the DA today. I go to lectures in PE once every two months with people like Bobby and James (Selfe). Both people who were activists of the PP and now parliament members of the DA today. Yes, activists who were in the PP are still in office today under the DA. The liberal political platform they created is still working today.

The PP went through so many name changes. Really it it did. I does not surprise me there is no specific endorsement from her for its most current name and branding, but thats irrelevant. At the end of the day the same people are still driving the machinery. They put in lots of hard work, under many different names for the result that we call the DA today.

The DA is the product, and direct political descendant, of Helen Suzman’s many courageous years in South African politics.

While I, and my institute, have at times been critical of DA policy, the party remains a broadly liberal organisation which offers the only credible political alternative to the ANC.

The party therefore stands for much of what Ms Suzman dedicated her life to see realised.

To suggest that there is nothing credible in this alternative, and to do so in the name of her own foundation, is something to which we object.

No. Nelson Mandela. The ANC of today is so far removed from its original cause... Unless you consider liberation of upper echelons of their membership from financial stress to be part of the liberation struggle?

How is this relevant and why would you say twisting spiritual belief to suit your political agenda and is in no way despicable at all? Of course it is. Lying for a political agenda is always despicable.

Can we even know if Mandela still endorses the current ANC, last time they dragged him on stage it looked like he didn't even know where he was.

Would Mandela really have approved of how they handled Mbeki ?

Exactly, and i feel the country deserves better than a party that is always going to be hungup over apartheid and another party that is going to be hungup over the ANC, they deserve a party that can exist without fear of either of them.

at the moment you have voters voting for the ANC out of fear of the DA and people voting for the DA out of fear for the ANC

What about the endorsement of all the PP members that are still in the DA? Try James Selfe or Bobby Stevenson. Both strong PP activists now DA leaders. These people unlike Helen were active politically at the time that the DA got its latest name. If you want a PP endorsement I can give you their emails and you can contact them directly.

I vote DA, but not out of fear of the ANC. I vote DA because I KNOW the ANC is incapable of running the country correctly, and the DA has the best chance of opposing them. Their principles aren't too far removed from my own so I don't find it a difficult choice to make.
