Article: NUM unhappy about white Anglo boss

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) expressed disappointment on Tuesday about the appointment of Mark Cutifani as Anglo American's new CEO.

The company had failed to appoint either a black or even a white South African woman to lead the global mining company, NUM general secretary Frans Baleni said.

Yes because only a South African is worthy of leading a global company.

Is there some reason Frans Baleni's racist remark makes the news but the appointment of a new CEO of Anglo doesn't? Just can't resist pushing that racist angle, can we?

It certainly made financial news. Has been on the newswires for some time now already.

BACK OT: so the guy whose driving mantra is "safety is our first value" is now not in line with NUM's objectives?

I think this year we are going to see even more labour unrest than last, with the unions jolting for position to the detriment of the country, while the presidency continues to pretend to be doing something about it. Last year was just a precursor to the wider unrest the unions are now going to cause in other sectors.

I have a feeling that this year could be Zuma's last...

Probably will be more unrest, but hopefully some long-term good comes out of it.

The only long term good that can really come of this is the massive reduction in Union power... and hopefully it happens sooner rather than later.

Funniest thing, 702 have the Black Management Forum president on the radio bitching about this but by definition,. the BMF is racist. No whites allowed so go figure
White people are allowed to join the BMF.

Riiight and the leaders of it? any links to that?
You said no whites allowed, not no white dudes in leadership positions. I don't know if they have any white dudes in leadership roles within the organisation.

Wonder how many white members they have?
No idea. Fact remains their official stance on membership is non-racial.

If so, why call it Black?
Because it is a group promoting transformation in management i.e. black management. Duh. Did you not know that?

This is like asking why they call a feminist organisation feminist if they allow men to join too. Silly. The name isn't about who they let join it is about what they stand for.

White people can join the BLA too.

I doubt they allow whites to join, would be interesting to see if they have any whites, by law they could not say it officially.
I highly doubt they would prevent white people from joining. Would just create a scandal when they were unable to come up with a satisfactory reason for rejecting the membership application and it would be great for PR to have more white folks in their organisation.
