Article: Owls are being decapitated

Bats are the reservoir, it is believed. The virus lives in them, without affecting them. Carriers, if you will.
The dog, if it got infected, would have probably become symptomatic, and been a major health risk.

Now just why would rats be any different ?

Along the wild coast the locals killed all the vervet monkeys in the area we visit, their reason being "the monkeys come and steal milk from the cows"

Monkeys are all but gone yet milk still gets stolen, enough said.

Blame [-]the tokoloshe[/-]apartheid!

Dont be so naive. because going and installing a owl box in a school is normal, obviously no one was told.

You cant tell me that if they did proper consulting they would not have realized there may be a problem and re thought the whole rat issue?
The fact is we live in a superstitious country where even high officials use witch doctors so its naive to not consider it when doing a project like this.

"They kill the birds, they decapitate them, they take their eyes out. Last week, we had a case where school kids caught an owl and cut its legs off with a pair of scissors."

Jip, sympathy level at absolute zero .. if not heading for the minuses.
In fact, hope the rats get you in your sleep.

The reason why I injected this ebola+rats question/argument is that it is a disctinct possibility.

Another is that the rats may contract Ebola by eating the flesh of dead victims, then carry it all over the place - so wherever a rat piddled, and you touch that infected piddle, then you run the risk...

Possiblilities are endless, we will never know what is happening until it is too late.

I can't believe this...

A week from now, these idiots will be up in arms again when an infant has its fingers chewed off.

The obvious question is, why has the rat population increased suddenly? Or has it been like this for some time?

It's not sudden. Been like this for ages.
Bad hygiene and sanitation and lack of natural predators.

Kill the owls. Rat infestation. Ebola hits. Darwin rests happily in his grave.
