Article: Pretoria Gautrain opens

Can't wait for the rest of the route to open. Only concern I have is transport around Jozi CBD from Park station. Roads are currently an absolute bunfight at the moment with lots of BRT construction "workers" standing around watching eachother do nothing

Good, my wife doesn't have to drive in peak hour traffic to ORT just to pick me up.

Does anyone know if a bus runs from park to wits?\

That would save me a 40minute drive from Fourways every day ...

I had to endure a heap of crap about cars driving past Mustek this morning. 702 were trying to pump up the GAutrain as being this awesome saviour of road conjestion. The truth seemed to be that a few dozen people took the train.

Let's see how things are by the end of the month.

Dad will start using it to get to work +if you park your car at the station you only pay R10.

No Gautrain bus, but if you are willing to put up with the Metro schedule I'm sure there is something that runs past the station and up through Braamies

Unfortunately when we have k@k like this happening daily, it doesn't matter how nice it is to ride on the Gautrain. If feeder systems from stations are a fsk-up then everything is a fsk-up
About 35,000 Rea Vaya commuters have been left stranded by a bus strike on Tuesday.

Employees met with management on Sunday and refused to accept the new shift structure, suggesting that it does not give them flexible hours.

Rea Vaya’s Sizwe Motshwane said the strike has been declared illegal and the service is meeting with its lawyers.

“This morning [Tuesday] we are now seeking legal advice to the stoppage of this illegal strike, all our 220 drivers are on strike,” he said.

I'll test in the coming Monday, the bus stop is about 3km from home in Garsfontein and there is a bus stop right at the office.

Dont see myself switching to it permanently unless my colleague leaves her job and doesn't contribute to the petrol anymore.

Is there anybody familiar with the Rhodesfield station who could answer a question for me?
I'm looking at taking the Gautrain from Sandton to Rhodesfield, but the bus route at Rhodesfield runs northwards and not south. I need to get to Emperor's Palace.
Can anybody tell me if there is an easy way out of the station to Pretoria Avenue? It looks like I can just walk down Valencia but I'd like to confirm.

Second question, relating to Gautrain in general: In order to use the buses you have to have a Gautrain Card. You can only buy the cards at the station. How are you supposed to get to the station to buy a card if you can't take the bus to the station? They say on the Gautrain site that the buses don't accept cash payments. This confuses me. I can't get to Sandton Station without taking a bus, but I don't have a card yet.

Yes, but how would you get to on to the train ? Do the Gautrain busses come to fourways ?

Yes, the Sandton Station C5 bus route comes up William Nicol, past Epsom Downs, over the N1, past Leslie and to Montecasino where it turns around and goes back. It's the same bus I would get on to go to Sandton Station, except apparently I can't because you need the Gautrain Card to get on the bus, and I need to get to the station in order to buy a card. Fail.

Check with Montecasino if they sell them there.

1: I doubt it. Its quite a bit more expensive to get from Rhodesfied to the airport so I doubt they are going to make it easier for you to get to the Palace.

2:You can get the Gautrain cards from 7eleven and other places close to the bus stop.

I don't need transport to Emperor's - I just need to get out into Pretoria Road where I will be picked up. I just want to confirm that I can exit the station and walk down Valencia to Pretoria Road. Or, is there a faster, easier, more direct access to Pretoria Road?

Check with Montecasino if they sell them there.

Monte's is a bit far away. I have no transport whatsoever. As it is I'm going to footslog nearly 2km uphill just to get to the Epsom Downs bus stop.
Also, there are no 7Elevens nearby. Best I can find is the PnP at Epsom Downs. Does PnP sell Gautrain cards?

The Spar near the bus stop in Noordwyk Midrand sells them, so I think any shop close to a stop might sell them. Or maybe you can call the gautrain people and ask: 0800 428 87246
