Article: Race matters: DA

Which is exactly what you're advocating on a individual bases. Where a black man gets the promotion at the expense of a white man because of the colour of his skin. Nats thought it in the best interests of society to separate people and abused it to their own advantage just like AA/BEE is abused today.

As you just admitted yourself judging people on the basis of their race. You think you're justified like Nats thought they were justified....

You seem to be glossing over the intentions behind them. If you want the law to act as if we are in a equal society, even though it isn't, then you are welcome to vote for another party. In the DA, we support AA and BEE. Black advancement is to the benefit of the whole of society

No just pointing out others who shared your fondness for racial discrimination also justified it to themselves by claiming the righteousness of their intentions.

But I will vote for somebody else thanks. For a party who's members can walk into a room and see people not race, who do not judge and discriminate based upon it etc.

Suppose we're different that way to you, Cool E, [insert old Nat here], types.....

That is the society we would like to build towards. Not the society we are in.
But feel free to vote for that other party. Hopefully they have large enough numbers in Parliament to advance your interests.

Yes we are not in a society like that primarily because of attitudes like yours. You try to legislate to "correct" what people do in their private capacity. The ludicrous logic that because there are people who discriminate we must do more of the same to redress it. But our victims are white and you know their rights don't actually quite count as much do they....

Except this society you aim for will never materialize as it has failed to do so in other countries where 'well intentioned' racial discrimination and meddling has been in force for nearly half a century! But good luck maybe you'll actually get it right this time. At least until you need to re-introduce it to protect the minorities as your extensively manipulated society starts to slip away when the majority start to gain an 'unfair' advantage....

When it reaches that point, the law would no longer be constitutional as race would not be an indicator of poverty

That's about as vague as you can possibly be. When will someone's poverty no longer be linked to his race? Especially in the current dispensation?

When people in poverty are no longer 99.9% black. When there is a decent percentage that is not black. What that percentage is I don't know. That will be up to the courts to interpret. But I imagine it would be when it comes down to less than < 80%

You're cool with screwing over that other 0.1%? I ask because I'm not.

This is the part I don't get about BEE. I'm cool with helping out the poor. I'm not cool with helping out just the poor that are black.

I'm also not cool with helping out people are not poor that happen to be black as currently happens in this BEE system that uses race as the single criterion upon which to determine who qualifies for special treatment and who doesn't.

Those are a tiny amount of people. And any other system is offensive to those that have been oppressed. You cannot ask people to prove that they are disadvantaged. That is tantamount to asking people to prove that apartheid existed.

So yes, I am cool with skewing over the 0.1% percent to help that other 99.9%

Wow. It isn't that hard to do a basic check on someone. Look at whether or not they have tax returns and if so check the amounts, check if there are properties registered in that individual's name, check on trusts of which that individual is a beneficiary, check on registered companies with that individual listed as a board member or owner or whatever etc.

Initial registration into the system would be a bugger but once that is done the government would just need to maintain that register to keep track of changes. Heck the info already exists all they'd need to do is check on it.

You think it suddenly becomes moral because you are just screwing over a minority? Jeez :erm:

I'd prefer a system that at least performs a rudimentary check on whether or not someone is poor instead of just assuming all black people are poor and all non-black people are not. I don't want to see rich black people benefiting or poor non-black people not benefiting. It isn't fair and I've seen far too much of it.

Well, then the you should start looking for a different party

Please answer my question:
Do you think it suddenly becomes moral because you are screwing over a minority?

and yes I'm definitely considering looking for another party. I consider it every election and have in the past voted other ways because of it. The BEE issue has been something that has annoyed me about the DA for a long time (people seem only to be leaping on this now but it has been DA policy for ages, it is nothing new). Unfortunately they are the only ones that stand a chance of unhorsing the ANC. They'd be similar to the ANC but far less corrupt and inept. At least that is a step up even if it isn't perfect.

So what like a census and if the percentage comes in around some predetermined number racial discrimination will no longer be constitutional. Of course this would not be open to rampant corrupt manipulation by those in power who benefit so much from it :erm: When exactly do you expect this to come into effect actually. A century from now lol? Then every few years another check to make sure things aren't going haywire requiring another dose of constitutionally condoned racial discrimination to correct things.

Has something like this been implemented in any other country? Doesn't seem advocates of racial discrimination have put much thought into the end game. Perhaps because in reality they don't see one despite claims to the contrary.

Well one can't really judge since the DA are for the most part in opposition which tends to keep politicians in check for obvious reasons. The policies they promote though once in power are fertile breeding grounds for corruption and ineptitude as we've seen with the ANC. In any case the point of opposition is to offer an alternative not more of the same with a little less corruption.

Now watch the mass exodus of the former white DA support base (ex NP supporters) from the party, as happened to the NP members when their party 'sold them out' and joined the ANC. This month will be remembered as the month the DA committed political suicide and become the official oppo-same (ANC-Lite) just before a national election.

In the last election all efforts were laid on the DA merging with ID (Patricia De Lille) to win the coloured vote. De Lille was made mayor of Cape Town to sweeten the deal and for the last 2 years it seems she has been sidelined in the leadership of the DA. The once vociferous, straigh-talking and strong leadership of Patricia has become mute. Why?

Helen Zille is tipped to be retiring from the party in 2015. Why?

All that's needed NOW is a new charismatic and unapologetic white (or perhaps coloured) leader to shepherd the existing supporters to a new party where they will feel a sense of belonging and self-preservation for their cultures. These events herald a marvellous opportunity for new, smaller opposition parties to grow in the vacuum of effective and decisive opposition.

Sorry DA, you have lost my vote. You have been spending enormous time and energy on 'representivity' issues in non-DA areas over the last 5 years and have effectively ignored, tossed aside and trivialised your existing support base (white and coloured) that made you what you are today.

Unfortunately, I still have no idea what you party stands for and against, and election time is just around the corner. How can I in all good conscience vote for a schizophrenic party that isn't prepared to play open cards with it's supporters?

Farewell and thank you for advancing opposition politics thus far.
It's time to vote with my head and not my heart.

Damn well said ;)

Noticing a few forumites now declaring they're no longer going to vote for the DA the last few days. But no ANC types signing up.
