I thought the news article below, originally posted by Sox, deserves its own thread.

Cape Town - Race remains a legitimate measure of disadvantage in South Africa, the DA said on Sunday.

"A non-racial society is a goal -- it doesn't exist today," Democratic Alliance parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko told journalists, speaking at the end of her party's federal council meeting in Cape Town.

The event, which ran over three days, was attended by about 150 delegates from around the country.

Mazibuko said the "big thing" to come out of the meeting was "the question of whether or not the DA accepts race as a legitimate proxy for disadvantage".

"The reality is, we don't live in a non-racial society... So we had to answer a very big policy question, which is going to underpin every redress policy we have - from social development to land reform, and many others in between.

"The question is: Do we believe that in 2013 race is still a legitimate proxy for disadvantage? And the answer was yes."

The DA has somewhat become a party in turmoil. They no longer appear to have any solid stands on a number of subjects. The party appears to consist of a number of people who each has their own viewpoints or opinions. There appears to be no proper control or leadership at the moment.

Over and above this, we are approaching election time. Now the DA needs to satisfy a number of different races in order to get votes, so this game of balancing will get out of line at some time for them.

So, whatever the DA says I take up with a pinch of salt at this time.

On the other hand what you see is what you get from the likes of the EFF. No BS.

It seems that the DA has spent so much time trying to put focus upon the wrongdoings of the ANC, that they forgot to form a cohesive party policy to actually campaign with.

Yes to address past injustices we need more of it. There will never be an acceptable 'non racial' society in the minds of a luberal. They still push this race crap everywhere one just needs to look at 1st world countries like the U.S and U.K....

No party that advocates racial discrimination will get my vote. Simple

"If there are South Africans who don't like this, there are many other parties to choose from," - will do that thanks.

Only 150 delegates from around the country, lol really a minority party.

Is it because he's black .. ?

Now watch the mass exodus of the former white DA support base (ex NP supporters) from the party, as happened to the NP members when their party 'sold them out' and joined the ANC. This month will be remembered as the month the DA committed political suicide and become the official oppo-same (ANC-Lite) just before a national election.

In the last election all efforts were laid on the DA merging with ID (Patricia De Lille) to win the coloured vote. De Lille was made mayor of Cape Town to sweeten the deal and for the last 2 years it seems she has been sidelined in the leadership of the DA. The once vociferous, straigh-talking and strong leadership of Patricia has become mute. Why?

Helen Zille is tipped to be retiring from the party in 2015. Why?

All that's needed NOW is a new charismatic and unapologetic white (or perhaps coloured) leader to shepherd the existing supporters to a new party where they will feel a sense of belonging and self-preservation for their cultures. These events herald a marvellous opportunity for new, smaller opposition parties to grow in the vacuum of effective and decisive opposition.

Sorry DA, you have lost my vote. You have been spending enormous time and energy on 'representivity' issues in non-DA areas over the last 5 years and have effectively ignored, tossed aside and trivialised your existing support base (white and coloured) that made you what you are today.

Unfortunately, I still have no idea what you party stands for and against, and election time is just around the corner. How can I in all good conscience vote for a schizophrenic party that isn't prepared to play open cards with it's supporters?

Farewell and thank you for advancing opposition politics thus far.
It's time to vote with my head and not my heart.

Yip. This identity crisis is the death blow for the DA as we have known it.
It now stands weak, vulnerable and the empress (Zille) has no clothes.
The ANC, EFF and others will exploit this weakness, swoop in an tear the party apart.

being considered "Verligte" by the likes of redeemed says it all really....
