Article: SA growth projections lower in 2011, 2012

The South African economy is projected to grow by 3.4 percent in 2011, down by 0.1 percent from previous projections, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Tuesday.

In its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) report update, the IMF said the country's economy is projected to grow by 3.4 percent, a 0.1 percent difference from the IMF's WEO 2010 projections. The South African economy is expected to grow by 3.8 percent in 2012, also down by 0.1 percent from previous projections.
 
The economy will grow ? Man , so now you telling me we'll only turn in Zimbabwe at 2013 at the earliest ? This is getting seriously off schedule now !

Could it be that AIDS isn't as bad as previously thought?

In any case, at least we growing, and with Walmart moving in, we might see other companies follow suit after the big boy takes the drive. So lets hope this projection is an underestimate.
 
It's good to see economic growth rate is growing, meaning from 3.4 to 3.8 etc.

No it's had a massive effect. Look at the graph I posted at how our population growth decreased when the real effects kicked in. But obviously you want to take anything that Unaids and WHO say with a pinch of salt. There was never anything like a 1 in 3 people have aids situation.

Not good enough though. That would take 30-50 years to get rid of poverty to a acceptable standard as it currently stands. As a member of BRICS now we should be hoping for 5-10 % growth which could do it in 10 -20.
 
I know, in my previous posts I have mentioned South Africa's growth is lackluster compared to the BRICs.
But 3.4 to 3.8 is better than 3.8 to 3.4
