Vio I'm tempted to assume that you've made a wide sweeping generalisation against the entire police force as being simply another gang. Is this correct?
If so then my next assumption is that you justify violence against the police force by simply labelling it as gang on gang violence?

Yes, in many ways the police is just another gang. Simple as that. If you break them down from top to bottom, they are the definition of a true gang.
They do what they want to whoever they want. They steal, they push drugs, they kill, they sell weapons to the streets.
My post right above this explains this. I would hope all cops know when they go out to go after gangs, they should be prepared to get shot and killed. At the end of they day aren't they soldiers fighting another army(criminals)?
Soldiers die.
