Article: "We will take land": Malema

Actually this solution of mine would also apply equally to them rich bruthers. If they happen to own more than the limit, it must be taken and redistributed.
Why do they not start now? What has the village idiot, zuumbie or any ANC brother ever done for their poor brothers?
Nothing.

I read it as government have cocked up with their land redistribution policies. I didn't read into it that he's a Malema supporter, nor that he's advocating Malema's suggestions...

Sure the government cocked up, do not blame the farmers and make them suffer. The government do not want to pay market prices as then there will be less to steal. Any farm is for sale if the market price can be had. Whats next? Your residence or mine?

Who's advocating that the farmers suffer? Only Malema as far as I can tell...

Imagine if the government forced you to sell your car for its book trade value. Would you be happy? That's what they're doing with their offers-to-purchase in willing buyer willing seller deals - and that's why it's not working.

You worked long and hard to buy your car and it is worth a hell of a lot more to you than what some catalogue says.

What does "play ball" mean exactly? I've seen this spoken about a lot lately in the whole land issues context.
I think he means they aren't necessarily currently using it for farming. He seems to think the only viable reason to have land is to use it for farming. If you aren't using it it should be taken away.

So in his world for example you can't buy land as an investment... which is just stupid. The government has no right to dictate what you can and can't do with YOUR property. As long as you aren't violating someone's rights then it really is nobody's business what you do with your land.

Actually, MegasXLR we do need a change in government policy. First off they must stop promising land redistribution because that is near impossible without repercussions.
What I suggest as an option is that -
1. Land that is currently unused be expropriated (Not whole farms but the parts that are not being used). You will be surprised how much arable farmland is currently lying fallow.
2. The potential new farmers need to be screened for their ability and willingness to farm and should be approved on a temporary basis until they can prove that they can farm profitably (like probationary period).
3. The potential new farmers be financially assisted by public institutions to obtain Agri loans at reduced interest rates.
4. Lastly, not every black person wants to be a farmer. Some of us are very much happy in the cities.:erm: Therefore, government should endeavour to give land only to those that want to be farmers. So I would suggest that the government forgets about the targets of black ownership as it's just a political stick that is used by the likes of Malema to stir sh#t.

When it comes to land reform I've seen it work and fail, 2 examples in the past 5 years.

Fruit Farmer build a fruit packhouse for his employees. Loaned them the money in order to start there own business. The farmer has a share in the business to cover interest. Employees own the packhouse/fruit packing business via a trust. These people come to work knowing the fact that they actually work for themselves. The harder they work, the more value is added to their investment. The farmer mentors individuals from within to take over management, while he assists in an advisory capacity. In a few years all loans will be repaid and you'll have the workers owning the business outright.

Goverment buys a farm and gives it to prospective BEE farmers. 3 years later the farm produces almost enough to feed the 30 families living there. The farmer is currently in Mozambique, were the Mozambique goverment gave him land on a long term lease. He has build up a successfull banana farm. They are currently doing great by exporting bananas to South Africa.

BEE/Land reform should not be about giving stuff away for free. I should always be about giving people the opportunity to create something for themselves.

How do you justify point 1?

What gives you the right to take someone else's property just because they're not using land in the way YOU think it should be used?

+1

and then farmers are just going to use all their land anyway.

I'm pretty sure I'd find a use for a plot of land if someone's threatening to take it away from me if I don't.

Yes, sorry, not the best way of depicting Mal-Enema, but his words of propaganda that stirs the masses has a certain similarity to that of the one who I shall not mention.

To add to my earlier statement here is an article that draws attention to Malema's narcissistic personality entitled Living in Jujuland.
