Article: Woolworths boycott backed by shareholders

I agree.
Even if marine and his pitbull decides to throw all their money at Woolworths it will be in vain.
Negative publicity breeds negative publicity.

Lol you think it's just me and my pit bull ? shows what person supports BDS lol.
Let them carry on they will see themselves in court again soon.

The irony is I never really shopped at woolies until the BDS came along. Well done BDS :D You are helping woolies :)

Again, only affecting 5% of the population. Muslims in SA think they are in the middle east... Wake up and smell the coffee. You are out numbered around 20 to 1. You have a 1 in 20 vote be it with your money, your ballots, your feet or your mouths. It's still just 1/20.

Sigh:erm:

you are misunderstanding

the boycott is ENTIRELY INEFFECTIVE with respect to its stated objectives
one of the ulterior reasons for going for Woolworths has been in the advance knowledge of the different routes to falsely claim "victory"

Its not about the claim of victory, its the negative publicity that goes with it.

Niether do I support Woolworths but thats before this whole debacle started.
Its not about blackmail, its about arrogant business practice of which I do believe Woolworths are fully accountable.
Its negative publicity either way, a PR disaster for the company. They will have to give in at some stage.

Dude... BDS have admitted that all major retailers buy from Israel and they are just targeting Woolworths, for no real reason.

That is utter BS.

If they really wanted to make an impact they would be targeting PnP or Checkers who have way more buying power and import way more.

The entire woolies boycott is hugely flawed and very suspect.

Honestly if they had a list of no-go products I would have a lot more respect.
This is such a typical attitude, people telling me what I should not be buying instead of just looking at their own purchases.

what "arrogant business practice"?

How much of this boycott do you understand?
Its not just about them supporting Israel, other retailers also support israel, do you know why WW was singled out?

You need to remember that BDS only represents their supporters and members. There are Muslim people, other religious and non-religious people against the Israeli-occupied territories / occupation campaign which actively shops at Woolworths. BDS has no authority to discredit the "ethical" choices made by any person, nor their morals. I don't see Woolworths evict Palestinians to construct a Woolworths, Woolworths do provide choice and their buyers has the choice to make the selection.

Seriously dude, you havent listened to their reasoning therefore you wont understand their boycott.

100% agree.

With that ethics they would have sold their Woolworths shares in protest not so?

Come on... are you reading what you're saying :D

I am. Owning shares doesn't equate to them agreeing with Woolies management. They bought the shares to influence and effect management change.

The fact that it may erode the value of their share is meaningless, because it wasn't acquired for financial wealth but the right to vote.

Lol.

Getting ready to go to Woolies now

As I said, its in vain.
Throw all you have at a WW store there are still very aware of the boycott.
The middle east war has been going on for decades, will WW be able survive it?

What don't you get?

It's like sitting at a Boks vs All Blacks game at Ellispark. You then say that if the All Blacks don't win you and your All Black supporters will not watch a game at Ellispark again. /facepalm

You so far off the story you need a Red Bull, it should be on sale at WW:D

Most idiotic thing I have ever heard :D But then again, will only be very small portions of the shares. Which still has ZERO effect.

Except the right to attend and vote at the AGM, which is all they need. Except that they will in all likelihood attempt to raise issues not on the agenda - which they cannot do unless certain exceptions are met.

nope activist shareholders can have a MAJOR effect particularly when they get to approach the courts to invoke relief as minority shareholders

and for what it is worth Delaware is such a corporate centre globally because it has such strong protections for minority shareholders and the chancery structure allows shareholders a great deal of protection and division from management generally
