President Jacob Zuma has been asked to grant working South Africans an extra public holiday next year because Christmas falls on a Sunday.
"It came to our attention that during 2011, working South Africans will only enjoy 11 out of the 12 paid public holidays," said Federation of Unions of SA (Fedusa) general secretary Dennis George on Monday.
YAY let's be more unproductive!
Erm. They want to delete one productive working day from the calendar because of a holiday falling on a weekend. So xmas is very productive at your company? I just sit around and listen to how the phones don't ring.
Next year? I thought Christmas falls on a Sunday this year?
I think they want an extra holiday next year, due to Xmas falling on a Sunday this year.
Yep, but Family Day (also a public holiday) then falls on a Monday, meaning that Tuesday is a normal working day.they didnt know that in terms of the public holiday act that any public holiday that falls on a sunday is automatically carried over to that Monday.....stupids ****s

Doesn't phase me, we're closed during that period anyway. They should be thankful that Xmas is a public holiday in the first place - people of other religions don't get one.
Sure, but that's not really the same thing as a public holiday, which is applicable to everyone regardless of company policy. At our work they do. They even get of to go to church.
