Ok wait, I think I get it now given their history.

Could possibly be because of friends or family in the beginning, maybe still. Since they were married and have kid/s together. So, if he or you pick up someone on such a date. How does the other one get home? I mean, if I know I'm just there for show, I will surely try and get me some arse for afterwards.

Uber! :p

I'd probably find it less awkward to just go by myself than spend the night trying to trick people into thinking we're a couple or something.
Just seems like a tedious affair to keep the charade going.

It's not all about "events". A gay man will marry a woman to appear straight - these women are known as beards - a cover up without knowing.

But why be ashamed? This aint the 1900's.

I suppose I get it to a degree, but why would they need to lie to themselves and others

We met in 1985 - things were still a little backward then and he had a strict father.

is it for financial reasons that you still stay together?

And for the Kid/s too I suppose. Makes 100% sense. I would probably do the same in a divorce situation till I move in with someone else. God knows I can't afford maintenance for all my kids and still afford decent living where I can take someone...
