I asked my girlfriend to get married and we didn't tell anyone until I asked her dad.

Her mom was completely shocked and only replied "Oh" whereas her dad told me to go to their kitchen, get 4 glasses and he opened a bottle of his expensive whisky.

That was on a Monday, and then we organised an engagement party for the whole family that weekend.

Just do it. Make an appointment and go and see them. They will probably guess what it is about and will appreciate you asking. It is old-fashioned, but a respectful thing to do. Good luck!

Best to go and ask him without her present.

My wife has 3 sibiling of which 2 are female as well. I was the only one to ask his permission... And had no problem at all. To this day he respects me more than his other Son's in-law. (Don't know if this has to do with me asking him but we have that respect for each other)

No idea where they stay if they are far away or not. Tell your GF you are going away for the weekend if far. Even try and cause a fight because of it, you want a weekend with the mates, she keeps you chained down and and and. Drive down to her folks and surprize them, (Make sure they will be home first!). Get there and with the walk-in ask if you can speak to them and get it out. If they approve (I hardly doubt any parent will ever say no tbh.) then thank them and drive back home to your future wife to be. When you get home tell her you have something you need to tell/ask her.

Tell her you have been thinking about this the whole time you where away and you think she needs to hear it from you her self... Long pause...

Ask her if she will marry you.

If she says yes, tell her that is what you where doing this weekend as you asked her folks's approval.

If she says no, tell her: "See this is exactly why I needed a weekend like this. Think I'll do the same again next weekend" :D
