Ok, to all who might be interested, I am urgently seeking one (or more, depending on the skill level) ASP.NET / C# developer(s) with some knowledge or experience of payroll. Our company has up until now performed some integration with various payroll systems, but we now need to develop our own fully fledged payroll module/system as a completely integrated part of our proprietary Human Capital Management system.

If you are interested, PM me.

Hm. For about a second there I got all excited, like. Then I read the big red letters. :( Not so excited now.

Believe me - finding the perfect (or at least ONE) candidate is a lot harder than it seems...

we interviewed 30 people out of 1 was a decent developer; most of them failed the initial paper test of "spot the errors in these code lines" and or "write a sql query for..."

LOL, got excited too, I'm looking for work for the holiday but this looks like a big project + I don't have my degree yet (just 1 more year) and I don't have any experience with Payroll systems. On the other hand I'm pretty good with .NET/Java/C++/SQL/PHP

Goodluck finding someone!

To OP, you are going to struggle to find people with those dev skills for a Payroll system ... good luck

Well, we had one successful interview, but the guy comes at a huge price! Also, he's more into SQL and systems analysis... He has some C# knowledge and skills, but he's nowhere near intermediate level. So, looks like we're hiring him plus a few junior developers to do dev while he does analysis and process mapping... Any takers for junior ASP.NET / C# developers with NO payroll skills necessary? :p

:o Still not quite within my skill set! :D Ja, nee. Good luck working through those CVs...

Well, what would your ideal job be? Super-junior-trainee ASP.NET / VB developer? ;)
:o Not a chance! Senior C#/VB.Net/ASP.Net Analyst Developer. Experience in Payroll not necessary. Name your price. ;)

How does that sound? :p

Well, I'll have to think about it...

EDIT: Right, done thinking. We have the analyst, only need the developer now. Experience in Payroll not necessary. We'll make the price. ;)

just as a guideline, what would you offer a candidate with 3 years industry exposure in web development using asp.net?

when i say offer, i refer to annual package or monthly contract salary, whatever your company's preference might be

It would all depend on your level of relevant experience, not exposure. Also, my company rates relevant qualifications quite highly as well. If I were to take a wild guess, you would end up with a monthly salary of around (PM me for details, lets just say "market related" for now ;) ) if you are at a junior-intermediate level in C# / ASP.NET / MSSQL development.

BUT don't hold me to it, as I'm not the one making that decision. My input stops at the candidates technical proficiency, with a look at future training & development.

EDIT: Removed salary for my own sake!

ahhh fair enough. problem though being that "market related" differs between JHB and CPT.

thanks :)

I may be interested. One year studying, and one year lecturing ASP.NET and C#.
