asp vs php

In my experience, most programming languages are equally capable. They just go about things slightly differently, and some make things a lot easier than others. Show me something that .NET can do but PHP can't or vice versa - they are both equally capable!

Furthermore, to throw JAVA and SAP into this conversation is just ridiculous - they make terrible web languages - PHP and.NET is far superior to them for web development, period. Choose the right tool for the job!
 
I have to interject - Java EE is an excellent platform for web applications. Not my first choice (because I'm an ASP.NET developer), but I have a wee bit of experience in it and it's far from terrible.

PHP can run on Apache. ASP.Net requires IIS. :p

Seriously though, I agree with you - pick the right tool for the job.
