Is Aston Martin Having A Go At SUV ‘Ring Record In The DBX707?
Aston Martin revealed the DBX707 as the fastest luxury SUV in the world but what about its track capabilities?
Currently, the production SUV lap record is held by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT which ran a time of 7:38.925in the middle of 2021.
It seems Aston Martin wants to grab this title from them as the automaker’s CEO, Tobias Moers, has promised to make an attempt on the lap record for SUVs at the Nürburgring.
New footage seen below shows a red example being pushed extremely hard at the infamous circuit which could mean they are preparing for this record attempt.

First Aston Martin DBX 707 rolls off of the production line
The super-SUV which holds claim as the fastest of its kind has rolled off of the production line with a happy customer expecting to receive the first Aston Martin DBX 707 in the coming days.
The hand-built model will be shipped out to 50 countries around the world and will have a hefty price tag starting around $240,000 without any options fitted. What this sum of money provides its buyers is the current-most powerful ICE-powered production SUV. The model produced in the St Athan factory in Wales boasts the same Mercedes-AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from before but has been turned up to 520 kW, or a whopping 114 kW improvement!

Ultimately, no other super-SUV feels as intuitive as this new DBX. To guide along good roads, it is truly satisfying, and the comprehensive 707 chassis revisions allow the car to feel a great deal more manageable and dynamically deft than its weight and dimensions suggest. You can also take fine everyday road manners and proper suitability for long-distance escapades for granted: given what it will do on an interesting B-road, the 707 laps up motorway work.
Whether it also laps up prospective patrons of Porsche and Lamborghini remains to be seen, but it certainly deserves some success in this regard.

Aston Martin DBX707 (2022) Launch Review
The Aston Martin DBX707 – touted as “the world’s most powerful SUV” – is now available in South Africa. We had a quick drive in a pre-production unit before it headed back to the UK.
“Please ignore the panel gaps, this is a pre-production unit and will be heading back to the UK soon”, says the Aston Martin DBX707’s chaperone. We know things are about to get serious when a test unit arrives at our office accompanied by a handler!
This example of the Gaydon-based firm’s 520 kW/900 Nm performance SUV wears British ‘plates because it’s in the Republic temporarily. Aston Martin’s local importer, Daytona, has been demonstrating the DBX707 to prospective buyers, as well as the automotive media.
We were only afforded a few hours with this machine – the apex version of the DBX (not a special edition) – and we weren’t going to pass up a chance to find out just how special it is.
How much does the Aston Martin DBX707 cost in South Africa?
Summary
As far as speed dating goes, this was an eye-opening encounter with arguably one of the most entertaining super SUVs on sale. Rivals? Well, the duo from the Volkswagen Group (in the forms of the Urus and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT) offer similar performance for a bit less money and it would be rude to forget the most powerful Bentley Bentayga – the Speed.
However, the biggest drawcard of an Aston Martin is the fact that it is an Aston Martin. There’s something alluring and oh-so-classy about the quintessentially British brand, and the DBX707 represents an excellent product that delivers superb driving thrills and in-car luxury in abundance. If it takes a performance SUV to keep Aston Martin afloat, then we’re all for it.

I’m rocking the Aston Martin DBX 707 on California’s epic Skyline Boulevard, increasingly boggled by this SUV’s nose for apexes and explosive corner exits. We already knew the DBX was the prettiest SUV on the planet, including versus bullseye performance targets in the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.
Now, Aston’s uprated 707 version is also the strongest predator on the SUV plain, with 697 horsepower (in metric, 707 PS, hence the name) from a muscled-up version of Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8. Hear me roar: A bloodthirsty exhaust note will strike fear into any sport-ute-snack the DBX encounters, amped up by a Sport Plus setting. Victims will include several traditional sport sedans whose lower profiles won’t mean jack versus a squat-riding crossover with 663 lb-ft of torque and silly grip from 23-inch wheels and Pirelli P Zero tires. Versus a merely 542-hp DBX, Aston credits an additional 145 horses and 147 lb-ft to new ball-bearing turbochargers and reworked induction and exhaust. Mercedes’ nine-speed, wet-clutch automatic transmission steps in for the slower torque-converter unit on the standard DBX. With one eye to future Nürburgring Nordschleife glory, the 707 can blister 60 mph in a manufacturer-claimed 3.1 seconds, hit 100 mph in 7.4 seconds, and keep churning to 193 mph.
