Aston Martin range updated as new game-inspired configurator launches
Aston Martin has launched a new online configurator that uses a video game-based platform to make the selection process somewhat more enjoyable; and to coincide with this, the British carmaker has also announced a series of model-year upgrades across its range of sports cars.
Key among these is an engine upgrade for the V8-powered versions of the BD11 grand tourer. The AMG-sourced 4-litre twin-turbo unit is now tuned to produce 393 kW, which is an improvement of 18 kW. The increased engine power is delivered at higher engine speeds by sustaining torque throughout the engine speed range. In addition to that, the DB11 as well as the DBX SUV are now available with optional Sports Plus Seats, which offer more support for the shoulders, thorax and legs.
Furthermore, the Vantage and DBS are now available with new 21-inch wheel designs, while DBX customers can opt for new 23-inch rims.
Although customers can create a truly bespoke vehicle on the new configurator, Aston Martin is also offering the option of a more simplified experience through a trio of interior trim themes, called Create, Accelerate and Inspire. These offer combinations of colours, materials and features that have been carefully curated by the design team.

The automaker was in dire straits but thanks to the DBX it's back on the right track.
Aston Martin desperately needed the DBX to be a hit, and you know what? It’s kind of working! It’s funny that it is that easy, just make a dumb SUV.
Aston released its first half results Wednesday, which showed revenue up a whopping 242 percent to £499 million, largely because of the DBX. Aston still reported an operating loss of £38 million, or about $52 million, but that was better than the first half of last year, when its operating loss was £159 million. Aston said the DBX sales were over half of its car sales in total, which totaled almost 2,901 for the first six months of this year.
It was all enough for Aston Chairman Lawrence Stroll to sound an optimistic note in Aston’s release:

Aston Martin DBX gives the brand a 224 per cent increase in global sales
The Aston Martin DBX has been a resounding for the British marque since it was introduced to the global market just over a year ago. The brand confirms that as the first half of 2021 drew to a close, total sales for the brand had increased by 224 per cent over the previous year thanks to the introduction of this product.
As Automotive News reports, the Aston Martin DBX accounted for more than half of these sales and comes as a relief having spent the last year restructuring its business. With Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll at the helm since 2018, a notable cash injection was invested into the brand and ties to Mercedes-Benz strengthened.
“The demand we see for our products, the new product pipeline and the quality of the team we have in place to execute, gives me great confidence in our continued success,” Stroll said Wednesday in a statement.
Last year, Aston Martin reached an agreement for Mercedes-Benz to supply it with hybrid and electric components in an attempt to expand on an engine tie-up that started in 2013. Mercedes-Benz will boost its stake in the automaker from 2,6 per cent to as much as 20 per cent over the next three years.

With the rising success of the Aston Martin DBX, company CEO Tobias Moers has revealed that there may be plans to expand this range into a six model offensive. This collection will consist of eco-friendly and high-performance examples boasting a number of different body styles.
Speaking to Motor Trend, Moers acknowledges that the Aston Martin DBX has been a big part of the company’s growth since it was launched to the global market. It’s understood that the brand has big plans for the SUV range that could include hybrids and higher-performance models of different design configurations. In all, there could be five or six new DBX variations to choose from by 2024.
Starting off this Aston Martin DBX offensive this year will be a hybrid model that is likely to employ AMG’s twin-scroll turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six engine with the EQ Boost motor. This will be followed-up by a high-performance model sometime next year that intends to take on the Lamborghini Urus.
“There is room for improvement in regards to performance because other competitors have a higher level of engine performance,” Moers says.
Despite it being a performance model however, Moers insists that it will not bear the brand’s AMR moniker. “In all honesty, we’re not going to use AMR as a brand because there is no need for a sub-brand because Aston Martin is a performance brand,” Moers says. “Aston Martin is supposed to be the performance brand when it comes to ultra luxury. That’s the mission and that’s the strategy.”

Uprated version of Aston's SUV has been spotted at the Nurburgring, allegedly with a V12 soundtrackAston Martin is readying a heavily uprated performance version of the DBX to rival the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT – and it could adopt V12 power.
Fresh shots from our photographer at the Nürburgring show a lightly camouflaged prototype being put through its paces, Signs of a bespoke styling package for the range-topper centre around a new front grille and beefed-up air intakes, but more telling are reports that the car sounded extremely similar to the V12-engined DB11 and DBS.
Autocar reported earlier this year that work was under way on a sportier DBX to arrive after the mild-hybrid, due in 2022, as part of Aston’s plan to expand the DBX nameplate into a diverse model family in the vein of its Porsche Cayenne rival. Based on the styling changes and the likely timing of its development cycle, it could arrive as part of a mid-life update for the luxury SUV, which was launched to the market in 2020.
Thought to be called the DBX S and arriving in 2023, it will no doubt be marked out by more aggressive bodywork, lowered suspension and upsized brakes, in line with a power hike that will take it far beyond the 542bhp of the standard car. As deployed in the DB11 AMR, Aston’s V12 pumps out 630bhp, almost an identical output to the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.

According to Autocar, this unit also shows off unique air intakes and an exhaust note that is strikingly similar to the V12 DB11. It’s understood that this new flagship model would be just a small part of a notable expansion to the range given the success the badge has seen since it was released. Based on the styling changes noted on this car, it’s also believed that the model is due for a mid-life facelift.
Understood to be badged as the Aston Martin DBX S, the new offering could boast a more dynamic design, sporty suspension and upgraded brakes. There’s no word on what power it could deliver but for the sake of reference, the twin-turbopetrol 5,2-litre V12 mill found in the DB11 AMR currently offers 470 kW and 600 N.m.

Not only is it at the top of the sales charts but demand is so high, that it is surpassing all the other models combined.
Their Q3 results are out and these show Aston Martin delivered a total of 2,186 DBX SUVs between January and September. In this interval, the other products generated sales of 2,064 units.
The results show that the British carmaker splits its lineup into Sport, GT, SUV, Other, and Specials categories. Sport includes the Vantage, GT the DB11 and DBS, Other the previous-gen models, while Specials are the limited-run exclusive cars.

There were a fair few opinions on the styling of the standard DBX when Aston first unveiled it in late 2019, so we’re sure the Internet will absolutely love this (here’s the point where we’d whack the sarcastic eyes emoji if our website allowed).
The first thing you’ll notice is the widebody kit with its forged carbon splitter, side skirts and diffuser. Very spiky.
Then there are the humungous 24-inch wheels to digest, as well as the carbon bonnet vents and the odd new wing mirrors.

Aston Martin DBX gains Mercedes-derived 3,0-litre straight-six option
After a teaser image that was published yesterday, the Aston Martin DBX has officially been revealed with Mercedes-Benz/AMG’s turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six engine. For now, the new powerplant will just be made available to the Chinese market.
With this powertrain, the Aston Martin DBX boats a power output of 320 kW and 520 N.m of torque with an additional 16 kW and 250 N.m via the mild-hybrid system. This is transmitted to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

After a teaser image that was published yesterday, the Aston Martin DBX has officially been revealed with Mercedes-Benz/AMG’s turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six engine. For now, the new powerplant will just be made available to the Chinese market.
With this powertrain, the Aston Martin DBX boats a power output of 320 kW and 520 N.m of torque with an additional 16 kW and 250 N.m via the mild-hybrid system. This is transmitted to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
