Hi guys,

If i use the uncapped package from axxess for R899, which runs on IS backbone, with my astraweb account, using the SSL connection- how secure is my connection? Will i get one of those warning emails that the people receive for downloading torrents?

How secure is this astraweb ssl connection and how does it work?

I've been using that exact same setup (except I'm on the express+) for nearly 4 months now and never had a problem so far...

The connection is secured so all axxess can do is say that you were connected to astraweb's servers but them or anyone else cant see what was downloaded.

so all the files are encrypted and they cant see what is being downloaded?

Technically the files themselves are not encrypted, they are just going through an encrypted connection.

On a side note: for some reason if I use grabit news reader with ssl on then it wont connect to astraweb, however now days I only use sabnzbd and it works like a charm. Could be an isolated case? Anyone else expierenced problems with grabit and ssl?

wel i also use axxes R899 but dont use astraweb cause i get to pay $4 and use cheapernews.com, for unlimted serivce and they give 4mb connection, so it doesnt even matter cause we dont have faster than 4mb speeds, so at the moment astraweb charges around $11 then tells you u get unlimted connection, why pay so much more for something u dont use then.

also i have been using cheapernews extry level unlimited package for a long time and havent had any problems , cuase u use NZB's with the news readers and not Torrents, so u will never get emailsed saying what u downloading is iligal cause nzb dont get tracked like a torrent.

its basically the safest way to download
secure links to a private server
u dont upload or connect to other peers
authorities have no business snooping it vs torrents where u throw the information around such as ur ip ur peers, ur downloaded and uploaded amount which is then in public domain

u can sleep happily at night while ur news downloads at gbs and gbs and then even more without worrying about a notice, atleast for the time being :)

enjoy

//edit does cheapernews give 256bit ssl connections

Security

Newsgroup Servers that use SSL are nice, it encrypts your conenction end-to-end from your ISP to the News server. What it does not do however, is encrypt the actual files that are being transferred. Also, the News server keeps a log of what groups/articles you have accessed and downloaded, so stay away from anything blatantly illegal, as law enforcement can subpeona the Newsgroup provider into handing over their logs.

I tried going to their site, with no luck. says website not found. anyone else experiencing that?

I've never gotten a warning letter from any ISP. But then again, I don't do illegal downloads.
