ASUS EEE PC - 7" Laptop

That's like the understatement of the century - the Eee pc has the functionality of a normal pc only in much more compact form; the kiddies ones are no more than big hand held video games.

That is true. Pathetic things those.

HiFi Corp seems to be advertising them for R2699.99, valid till 3rd March - received the e-mail yesterday...

i wonder which truck they fell off this time, hifi corp sell k@K

Incredible sells them for the same amount. R2699 for the G2. G4 goes for around the R3k mark, allegedly. Anyone want to buy a kidney? I NEED a laptop.

Checked one out - I was quite enthusiastic at first (at that price - hell!) but they arent al that great. Very plasticky and restrictively small IMO.
Basically just an email checker and maybe a one or two line replier ...something that a host of other, cooler devices can do.
I'm sure they have their place though ...excellent for young kids.

Went to check one out today at IC.

The base 2GB/512MB RAM model in white. She is a sexy beast for sure. Boots quickly...The screen is small and so is the keypad but I like it.

If I had had R2700 on me at the time I'd be tying this message on my new ASUS EEE PC for sure! :p

I'm just wondering if it's worth paying the extra R600 to get the 4G version.

The 4G has a 4GB HDD, and the processor is 900Mhz, not 800mhz and has 512k L1 cache not 32k...

For basic things and running XP, would I need to get the 4G one or will it run fine on the 2G as well?

Why switch to XP when the included sofware is pretty funtional?:)

dunno where you get the cpu specs from...but it is a celeron 900mhz, but gets clocked down to 633mhz for both models..you can up it back to 900mhz if you want, but the way you buy it, it is 633mhz.

The 2G one comes with the same processor, but it is running at 800mhz and only has 32k L1 cache.

I will find you a linky...

Thought all the models had the same processor? Oh well. The bigger models also have removable dimms, so you can up the ram on them, if you want. You void the warranty, of course. The larger 4G one and the 8G comes with batteries that have more capacity, so that might be something to look into as well. Very sexy pieces of kit. Would LOVE to have one and it's a lot more affordable than other laptops.
