Right. So that confirms it then...

I wonder what difference that makes if you keep the Linux install on it or install Kubuntu or whatever.

Pity about the soldered-on RAM as well...

And, as mentioned above, the bigger models have better battery life, but then you are looking at nearly R5000, which is the same as an entry-level full-size lappie.

Well, I could get them from Rectron.

Seems none of the Surf models come with a carry case. You'd have to go for the 4GB model with webcam to get one.

Ya, the carry case is not really that important to me to be honest.

How much is the 4GB surf at rectron? And the 4G non-surf? And the 2G?? :)

I am leaning towards the 2G, with a 4GB SD card totalling R3000.

Just worried about the lack of space for more apps on that 2GB HDD...:(
 
I really think the 2G is a bad buy... the lack of upgradeable memory is the deal breaker. 2 gigs of space is also tiny.
Save now and by the time they have the 4G surf in stock you'll have the extra 500 bucks available!

Hehe, you sound familiar :)

I agree with what you are saying. I just need to be strong to hold of until the 4G surf is available...

If it weren't for the RAM issue, I would go for the 2G. Even that does not phase me that much as I am only going to run XP on the thing anyway and 512MB runs it fine.

Decisions decisions...

Rather go for the 4G one if you can afford it.

The 2G model cannot be upgraded (more RAM) but the 4G and better model(s) can.

Ya. I hear what you are saying. I just reckon for the extra cash I could get an SD card, and use my current flash drive and other USB devices to make up for the 2GB HDD. And 512MB RAM will run XP fine. I don't plan on running Vista any time soon on a machine like that....
 
@ hj2k_x - those lappies wasn't designed for Vista, for either Ubuntu or XP.

Think you will be able to get away with it if you buy the 2G model, and use external storage devices for your work and such.
 
Would one be able to flash/re-format the drive to remove Linux and install TinyXP on it?! :D
 
Well I went out and got one :)

She is small for sure. This typing is going to take some getting used to but I have managed to type this message right here quite quickly :)
