Atos eating front tyres.

Where are you located?

Pretoria.

It's not just Atos' that eat their tyres! Koenigsegg's do too!

Sorry, I can't add anything useful. I'll leave now... :p

:D

When you take it for alignment, get them to print a copy of the figures and post them here. Often places will only adjust your toe, and ignore errors in camber and castor, by posting them here, someone will be able to check and see if they look reasonable.

I've even had a place edit the settings to ensure that all the values were in the "green" range on the screen, and they had to redo it when I showed them the correct specs in the handbook.

Over the years, I've had problems with alignment being set badly, so it's worth shopping around, and when you find somewhere that does a good job, stick with them.

I'll do this :)

Like I said - put weight in the car in the driver's position when aligning. It worked for me when I had a problem like yours.

Yea I'll see what (whoever i take it to) says about me doing this as well :)

Likely tiger wheel and tyre as I can get a family discount due to BIL :D

Agree with alignment with the driver in the car might be solution.

Also the Exhaust & Tyre City at Menlyn Motor City (next to total garage) are very professional.

Run your hand across the width of the tire.

In the worn section.

If it is smooth = bad camber

if it is rough(feathered) then it is toe out causing the issue,

The problem might be caused by either bent suspension/steering arms or bad alignment.

USUALLY you do not have to have weight in the car to align it properly. Most modern rigs take this into account automatically.

The old manual string method, needed the weight in the driver seat.

BTW find a proper suspension place to do the diagnosis. quick fits are useless

Atos is hungry. Try and find the settings of the camber and make sure the alignment shop does it correctly. I had some idiot dial in the wrong settings on my car.

Pretoria.

Sorry can't help you. If you were in DBN I would recommend taking it to Sam Edgar.

Either way find a suspension specialist in PTA (not a quickfit, twt, supaquick etc) that will put the car up on a lift and go over it with a fine tooth comb as there could be many contributing factors.

Not a worry, thanks to this thread i think i'll be well prepared for the missions tomorrow.

Worst case scenario is that your car might have something bent, can be anything from steering rack to chassis, hitting deep potholes usually does this. But like I said thats worst case...

Hey dude.

TWT Silverlakes was the only place that adjusted my Corsa Lite's alignment correctly.
They also do a stellar job on my dad's Megane every time.

It's clearly the Atos' MASSIVE torque, a common issue.

:p

I can only echo what everyone else is saying, have the car re-aligned and check for any suspension issues. Are you rotating the tyres, or do they wear too quickly to do this? And have you or your wife ever hit something (a pothole, brick etc.) that could cause suspension/tyre damage?

Come to think of it, does one from tyre wear out quicker than the other?

The first time it happened the driver side tyre wore out very quickly.
After the 3rd wheel alignment (first one not done at the dealer) they wear out "evenly".

Never hit anything worth mentioning :)

Dude... its not about what they say about you doing it... You inform them that they will do it the way you want them to do it, with the vehicle selected as per YOUR instruction...

Too many times people just let these guys walk all over them...

I've shopped around a good few times, eventually found a place that did things the way I told them do. Did take a bit of fighting, but when I was dropping R8k on new tyres they stopped fighting so much.

I like this attitude :)

I had a Atos for over 5 years, mine also did that. Wheel alignment, caster and camber didn't do a lot. Or didn't help for long. I just lived with it until I sold it.
Probably a problem on these cars.

I like this attitude :)

I got tired of companies constantly trying their luck with me... and too often we're all afraid of upsetting the person who is doing work for us.... I lost my patience with all of them, they now get told what I want and if I see them doing something I don't like they get told.

One or two guys get upset, but that also changes when I just tell them I'll take my business elsewhere.

I had this attitude with my UNO. I told them what I wanted done and when they inevitably gave me other things that "should be done" I took the car home and verified for myself (95% of the time they were talking bull).

Only reason I am even slightly nice right now is because it's still under warranty.

Taking it there tomorrow Fazda but it has been this way since we got the car and each time I had the same debate we are having now :( (Your wheel alignment is out, but I had it checked, no that is the reason, oh and tiger wheel +tyre said "your wheel alignment is out and they are s**t tyres").

How often do you have it checked though? Doing it once in every 50 000km is going to be meaningless.

They want you to do it every 10 000km but in the real world I would say 15 000km (every service) should be fine as well.

Also they should be rotated at the same time.

You're nice because its under warranty?!?!?!

I'm even more brutal when things are under warranty, then they do it even MORE to my requirements because I can guarantee that my standards are higher than theirs.

The car is now at almost 45000k. I have done it a total of 6 times. so every 7500k approximately?
