ATT: Gian | Afrihost Management

LOL @ hj2k_x well, not all at once ;) Sorry to dissapoint you, but there has been no change to my connection since I reached 10gigs, there are only a handful of people complaining here, and I am sure there are hundreds of people with Afrihost uncapped......it's hardly representative. Perhaps if we knew what everyone else was experiencing.....

Thanks for that, Anthony. Though I'm happy with Afrihost, I feel the 30gb first threshold is a tad stingy. 50gb would probably suffice most of us. Having said that, it's the 11th and I'm just under 10gb, so it's probably going to be fine for me.

The thresholds are ridiculous. I am so glad I didn't jump ship as soon as these packages were released. They are pretty crap if you're honest.

It's early days.....either Afrihost will relax a little or the other ISPs will tighten up, lets not kid ourselves, we live in South Africa, it isn't sustainable the way we want it yet.

done 46 gigs on mweb and still going strong..
I think the problem/advantage with "uncapped" is you shouldnt have to worry about how much you have used..
Personally I was surprised I had used so much!

And ya i have watched and used all I dl :)
When you move over to uncapped you can dl a trailor and not have to worry.. Where on 5 gig capped i provisioned like 160mb a day which is nothing really..

LOL!!!:D

I got zero problems with afrihost!
Their service to me has been nothing but excellent!

It's you bandwith hogs that always screw everything up! Setting up download managers to download 24/7 when you hardly use 90% of the stuff you download!

Shame on you!

Gian is a good person who started the price wars and should be complimented!

You are an idiot! I for one dont use torrents to download anything, but I use my bandwidth on Steam. Ever heard of them? No? Well read up then my dear fellow.
I BUY my games online and then download them. Nothing illegal about that. The problem is that I am close to my 30 gb cap. Seems like although Gian and his team had a good idea, they did not plan it properly and did not execute it properly.

As for, I have canceled my account with Afrihost (and I am not asking for a refund). Nice idea, bad execution. For the record, I have no problems with the download speeds, but to be brought to a halt close to middle of the month is just not on.

I for one will be moving to Openweb. The option I am looking at is R929 per month and it is 100gb unshaped traffic.

Thank You and good bye Afrihost...

Yep I think that is very true and those of us who are waiting for the dust to settle will be able to make a balanced decision in a few months time.

As someone else has said on one of the numerous threads, Mweb is most likely being willing to lose money at this stage and later on will apply the brakes once they have destroyed some of the other ISPs. I really do hope this does not end up being the case and that in a few months each ISP will have it's own good areas and people will generally be able to find what they are looking for at a cost that will fit their budgets.

@Cornedp: So now anyone who hasn't experienced issues with Afrihost is an idiot? The measure of intelligence is how much you have been throttled by Afrihost?

I have moved 43GB so far with Afrihost and, up until late Friday night when I again lost authentication (haven't bothered to contact AH about it ... it's a mission getting hold of them on a weekend) I was getting perfectly acceptable speeds. Not quite 4mbps, but around 2mbps.

I suppose that makes me an idiot too.

Maybe it does. If the shoe fits...

That's if you are on a 4Mbs line. 512kbs is at 15GB and 384kbs is at 10GB.

That's what the didgichilli & screamer dudes said. Poor suckers are still waiting, you're next :D

The HAVE to respond to MWEB's offer otherwise they will lose a lot of business. However, the only way they can afford the upstream bandwidth is if they throttle everyone.

Damned if the do, damned if they dont

.. and they hurt their reputation by doing exactly that. They lied about a product just to be able to compete and got burnt badly.

There is more though. Eventually everyone will move to an ISP who's t&c's make sense. Currently this seems to be MWEB. This means that the smaller isps are going to fold. Which means all the end users will be with mweb. which means mweb has all the power. which means that mweb can set pricing as they please.

Exactly how the market should work. If MWEB ever decides to up their prices someone else wil undercut them & they will lose those customers again. Also the reason why the cellular providers can pretty much ask what they want, their prices are so closely matched there's no competition.

So which would you say is worse, price collusion vs. changing T&C's on the sly ..
