ATT: Gian | Afrihost Management

Afrihost is in a spot of trouble, they are paying per Gig for their bandwidth from IS and I think the amount people were downloading put them in a situation where they either go bust or slam on the brakes brutally to enable the business to survive this to some extent. The PR damage they suffered will haunt them for a very long time. I would not like to be working at Afrihost at this stage, a flood of negative emails, phone calls and discussions on forums. Strange this hasn't made news headlines, or did I miss it?

Let's face it - an afrihost uncapped account is fine for a company who got a couple of employees having to do web-based work, NOT for some "arrrrrrr me maties" pirate who will try to download every single new movie and release, and also offer these up for share via torrents.

Pffft. I have absolutely NO sympathy for people who try to use their uncapped account to the max, and then run crying to Mommy when their a$$ get bitten.

Hey... do you want cheese with that whine?

You obviously didn't read the T&C's properly - and tried to download a lot of stuff, and probably got throttled for that. Now you want to whine about that?

Get a life man.

Well, since the T&C most prob changed AFTER he signed up it becomes null and void!! You cannot change a contract on the fly after you signed and change the conditions. It can never be legally enforced in that case.

@marine1, I've been wondering if there are some Afrihost employees undercover here!

The thing that really offends me with the T&C changes at Afrihost is the fact they actually limit the line, why do I pay telkom for the use of a 4mb line if my ISP will just downgrade it at their discretion. Shaping I agree with, but throttling is just nasty. I'm happy to say that I've now exhausted my major downloads and will be more than happy to cut back on usage now, anyhow when will I get the time to play/watch what I now have.

No it is you who needs to get a life and research the information if you are clueless. People are bleak because the T's and C's were changed AFTER they signed up. It is also false advertising.

The thing that really offends me is that Afrihost are throttling 4Mbps uncapped accounts to 1Mbps when you reach 30 gigs, and not 60 gigs as stated in their T&C's. This seems to be happening to a lot of people.

@marine1, I'd have thought they'd be to busy processing cancellations and complaints to play on the internet. Or at a real push, busy fixing their service offering.

@deweyzeph, my last day at Afrihost this week I also had the joy of downloading at 25kb/s (if I was lucky.) And that was at 40GB. Afrihost had the nerve to blame it on Telkom rather then owning up to their shortcomings. All in all it's just one giant mess on their side. At least Mweb (thus far) has been great, lets hope they're not another Afrihost in the next month or so.

@marine1, from what I've read quite a number of people have. I would have hoped that at the very least Afrihost removed their uncapped offer from their website till this whole mess is sorted, that at least would have been a good move on their side. I wonder what they are up to right now?

What RogueRunner said.

I was an avid AH supporter, Gian even follows ME on twitter. But even I felt a bit schneid by them changing T&C's after I signed up (I was one of the first who did).

I've requested that they honour their money-back-guarantee and refund me, but to be fair to them (for the first 30GB that worked very well) I suggested they bill me a pro-rata rate for the time that I made use of their service while it was acceptable.

Listen guys, leave Afrihost alone; they have learnt their lesson. It is so bad with the speeds that my capped (left over bandwidth) account on 384K line crawls at 16kB/s! I called and they blamed it on Telkom. Telkom did a thorough line test but problem still persisted. Since then (2 weeks now) I have signed up with MWEB uncapped--and the speeds are excellent sometimes even over 40kB/s. So move already--just leave afrihost.

for those subscribers with Afrihost, PLEASE DO NOT do an application with another provider using your Afrihost connection to the net, it will probably timeout
or get you so irritated and you may think that there is something wrong with the other providers site. Rather call the other provider and get connected.

Also a suggestion - keep the posts regarding afrihost to a bare minimum so the guys at afrihost will be able to eventually see it loaded onto their screens or sorry they may blame it on slow responses from MYBB site.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree! Just cancel AH and move on! That's exactly what I did, but to me money is a real issue, even throwing away R50 is a lot to me! So what I'm really raging on about is the fact that they don't wanna give me a pro-rata refund!
