Audi A4 2006 Multitronic Repair

Due to a controller fault for my multitronic CVT, an oil pipe burst and the multitronic system got significant damage. The Audi service center referred me to Elremanns's (independent gearbox specialist). The quote to repair is around R40k. I understand this is probably significantly cheaper than what an official Audi service center may charge me, but it's still a lot of money. Since it's a 2006 model, it's way out of it's service plan.

Now I saw that in the US there was a settlement with Audi in 2013, in which they cover the repairs for these CVT faults like this, including my model, up to 10 years / 100k miles. The problem is this settlement only covers US customers, and Audi never admit to any fault on their side as part of it. That said, is there any chance that Audi could cover the repair (or part of it) in South Africa? Has anyone managed to claim for repairs from Audi in SA outside a service plan? If yes, would doing the repairs through an independent specialist reduce my chances of getting something back?

The car is a 2006 Audi A4 2.0TFSI (B7).

Yeah, good luck with that. Our vehicle things are so rough getting it replaced "in-service-plan" is already a challenge at times.

Most of the gearbox replacements and repairs are done through gearbox specialists, since it's usually out of the capability of the service centres. R40k isn't a lot - my Peugeot's gearbox overhaul cost R25k in 2005. A new gearbox was R35k at that stage.

Considering the car is probably worth around R100k (or less), R40k is a lot for me. On the other side, if I don't do the repairs it's worth nothing, so it's not much of a choice.

Phone the MD of Audi South Africa and send an email to the German counterpart.
This will rattle a lot of feathers but you have to be a DAMN nuisance.
It may work but you have everything to gain and NOTHING to lose.

Audi SA do budge - but not after a huge fight, so be prepared. I've seen people get things after the plan is done, but that isn't the norm.

I was IN plan and I had to fight to get them to even look at my car! They tried everything possible to not pay.

Don't be jealous you can't afford German. Go see which companies VW own. And you don't let someone buy you out, you get bought out.

Thats the oddest fact ive seen in a while, since you can buy both cars in the UK without motor plan for far less

Very sad to hear about this situation, reminds me of that other dude that had a major uphill battle with the Scirocco although that was a new car.

Having faced a fairly similar situation with a Land Rover Defender and a fruitless to-and-fro with BMW SA my recommendation would be to sell the car AS IS to whom ever will buy it, maybe a specialist used Audi/VAG parts dealer and let them fix/strip it. Use the money you get and buy something else (not a VAG).

I read an article recently about the audi and vw auto boxes. If I remember correctly the s-tronic can only be replaced and never fixed (not sure if this is true) and its in the region of $5000, so no idea what you would pay here but it didn't have any info on cvt boxes.

Perhaps if you make enough noise they may do something about it, you may be lucky and get them to cover a large part of the costs, but they could also politely tell you to f@#k off like they did to my parents with regards to parts that were under recall.

If you sell your car, take a look at a c class they are very reliable. My fathers is sitting on 250k km, only thing thats been done besides services is a new starter motor.
