I'm trying to get some quotes for selling for parts, but unless I can get R50k-R60k for the parts it's better to repair it. I have no idea what is a realistic amount for the parts though.
 
Why don't you have a warranty, OP? Especially on a CVT?

Not for Motorite / SA Warranties.

Replacing/repairing will bring peace of mind and many more happy miles, great cars those and not much reason to sell.

If you do consider selling, the replacement/repair will also offer the potential buyer peace of mind, which you can charge more for.

That said, B7s have depreciated a lot, many good nick ones around the R100k mark, so you can't expect anything more than that.

Fantastic for second hand buyers!

That's why I bought for R130k three years ago. Apart from the multitronic issue it is a great car. If I don't sell it after these repairs, I'll definitely look into a mechanical warranty.

First place was willing to offer me R18k :wtf: Guess I'm not selling for parts then.

How much would Motorrite have cost him and how much would it have paid out at his mileage? He would more than certainly have still paid more than he would gain. IIRC They pay out like R8k max for a gearbox...

No way BMW will do anything once you are out of motorplan. There are known issues that have had recalls in the USA - like the E46 subframe mounts issue - that you stand no chance of getting a repair out of them in SA...

I had a cat converter go on an A4 audi, literally on 101500 , 1500 out of motor plan, the idea was to trade in within the next mth - I bitched cause Audi UK guarantees cat convertor for 10yrs (at the time) - anyhow they dropped the price from R23k to R13k.

The other option was to have it removed at R5k and bypass catconv.

I chose to drive the car hard so cat stops making a noise when it heats up and then quickly headed to Audii to trade it in without disclosing it - its dodge i know but beats having them ripping me off.

Really sorry to hear that, but I can't say that you can expect more. Selling a non-runner usually means you are making a big loss. Second best would be to fix it and then trade it in, provided you have the finances to do that. If needs be you might want to consider a loan to fix it and then settle the loan after you sell it. There are plenty of idiots out there that will buy that car if it is running.

Perhaps if you make enough noise they may do something about it, you may be lucky and get them to cover a large part of the costs, but they could also politely tell you to f@#k off like they did to my parents with regards to parts that were under recall.

If you sell your car, take a look at a c class they are very reliable. My fathers is sitting on 250k km, only thing thats been done besides services is a new starter motor.

I recently had a problem with my S-Tronic transmission. Thankfully still under plan. Was a burnt circuit board or something. Was R7k to replace.
Audi Airport told me that out of motor plan Audi SA will carry 70% of the cost if the transmission fails. Makes it less of a bitter pill.
 
I'd really get that in writing ; Audi SA aren't my favourite to deal with

I've done 120k on my 2004 A4 2.4 multitronic. The ECU failed at around 75k and again at 115k. Motorite paid R23k odd to repair it the first time and the last repair was on my own dime at R21k done at Erlemanns.

I recently spent another R28k having a seized engine repaired.

These multitronic boxes are a disgrace. A lesser brand would have folded.
