Audi Feedback -

Hi,

Regardless - it's 50% off teh clutch, so even they do come back and say abuse, they'll cover 50%. But I do agree with you with what caused them to change their mind. Between the forums I placed this on I have over 3,000 views and around 40 replies - most of these negative towards the service.

Two guys from the Audi club said they'd look elsewhere - and then random folk chipped into Facebook chat. This, I mentioned to them to show I wasn't happy with their choice.

I guess 3 clutches would seriously be pushing it, so I'm OK with the choice

Aren't you still treating the symptoms?

Well what we're doing is I'm taking the car to Hatfield through a recommendation, so he knows the issues.

While there on Saturday, I'm going to take notes and be able to speak to the guy and tell him my concerns and I'll be a little omre involved that a 'clutch replacement'.

I can guarantee you this is because some slightly more higher up people got involved and they realised if they DON'T do something, this will end up costing them considerably more than a clutch replacement in lost sales..

I already will think twice before dealing with Audi because of this specific issue, even though I really like the A4 and the A5....

I would also question whether the report will be objective tbh...
He's going to a different dealer group - one that is known for much better customer service. I reckon he will get fair treatment there.

I took the car through to Audi Rivonia which seem a far better dealer IMO.

The technical service manager agreed to drive my car and test reverse, uphill etc for a 10km.

His thought it isn't the clutch but rather 2nd > 3rd synchro and ordered the part which should come in a week or 2

The spongy and sqeaky pedal could be no grease or a bearing that needs a replacement - not a full clutch. However he says when he does gearbox he will check the clutch too for piece of mind. Audi SA keep their 50:50 offer to 8 Sep

I'm assuming the FWP will cover the synchro, right?

I asked and he said it should be fine ... but that's exactly what Westrand said until 7 hours after the car was booked in. So I'm not going to get too excited at this stage.

It's probably cheaper than a clutch, Audi SA should feel better

Well, if they're dropping the gearbox, then there's zero labour in replacing the clutch ... So you can pay the labour portion and audi can pay for the parts? :D

LOL

Never thought it like that ;)

He does - I think clutch flywheel are R30,000 so if they see the clutch is 80% (only 8,000km!) I'll rather not spent the half they want :P

If for whatever reason it is fairly warn, I'll take the offer.

@ Sinbad - they wouldn't know a failing master/slave unit by driving, right?
But they'd be able to physically look?

If the master/slave is failing, they should pick it up on a test drive.

Should be easy enough to diagnose.

Put car in first with clutch in, handbrake off, and wait for it to start moving without you moving the clutch.

Oh I don't think I've ever experienced that.

So in other words the clutch is always engaged, even partly ?

Great - got it :)

Thanks guys ; doesn't sound like that then - and more the likely the synchros

Nope - no slipping or anything

The reason I thought it was the clutch was :

1) Spongy and squeaky clutch pedal. It just felt ... different and not fantastic
2) The 2nd > 3rd gear shift issue
3) Shudder during certain circumstances - reverse, long traffic etc

Solutions :

1) He reckons the pedal is just grease - pressure feels great.
2) The 2nd > 3rd is the synchro and nothing to do with the clutch.
3) We couldn't get it to shudder when was driving :/
