I'll be honest - not easy to choose.

The A5 - especially this particular one - is hot. Decent speed with a S Tronic 155kw engine as well, but choosing it means I give up blasting around Witkoppen and hearing the exhaust note of the S4. A p,us of the A5 is that I will save cash upfront and even in 2 years time, I can still extend the warranty further and I'll only 60,000km on the clock.

The S4 cannot be extended beyond 2017.

I have to sleep on it

Where the hell you find an A5 with such low mileage at the price? I paid R314k for my 2011 with 71k on the clock.

This one is a friends :p

But my other choice was a 2010 with 36,000km - also B&O, navigation, AMI etc at R280,000.00

The S4 is pre facelift and looks outdated. The new shape A5 with S-line kit looks way hotter.

Just a thought, but what about an S5?

Price.

The cheapest examples on Autotrader have either expired AFP or just about to. The extension is another R40,000 on the price - meaning they're like R70,000 more than the A5 and R40,000 more than the S4

Gees, for that money I would go for a A6 3.0T...

Too big and famlyish for me and I think horrible resale compared to an S4/A5. That said, the second one does look pretty cool - but the plan is running out next year and then another R40k, so the total price is R400k+

I'm leaning towards the A5 actually. Will save me cash now and I could have the plan to 2019 if I wanted, so no real need to sell in 2017.

Still confused though

Personally I wouldn't worry about plan extensions... Slight risk, but you're much better off pocketing the exorbitant renewals and using a private mechanic IF any niggles pop up. The chances of this happening after 5 years is quite slim, if the car has been solid without any underlying mechanical/electrical issues.

I have decided on this route with my A5. 9k km left in plan.
Taking out a 2 year warranty and winging it with my private mechanic.

The problem with plans is also that they will do anything to NOT replace the more expensive components. They'll always start with the cheapest options first and play 'trial and error' in order to save cash themselves, while the client has to wait, bring their car back several times, etc.

The plan is a Audi Freeway Plan - an extension of the original plan when you get the car. Which means everything (brakes, services, gearboxes etc) aside from fuel and tyres are included. They don't try get out of it, unless it's a manual and a clutch ...

That S4 looks so... boring. Sheesh.

The A5 seems to have the greater benefits overall (less costly, considerably better looking, ability to extend the freeway plan beyond the S4's date, is the facelift model), and I think that should you get bored with it before the Freeway Plan runs out, you'll have a better resale value on it.

Also, the 2.0T doesn't have a bad exhaust note at all, and the B8 S4 does have a reputation of being a bit too quiet- certainly no match for your current B6(?) S4.

Yip, familiar with it.

Service from private specialist @ R2,000.00 * 2 years = R4,000.00 (Audi @ R4,000 * 2 years = R8,000)
Brakes from " " @ R4 - 5,000.00 ? (Audi @ R8 - R10,000.00 ?)
Clutch from " " @ R12,000 (Audi @ R20,000.00)

You get the picture...

Agreed, although an enthusiast knows the differences, which are clear.

For the average Joe, the styling differences between the bodies of a regular Xenon/LED dot B8 and B8 S4 are subtle and insignificant. But the rear changes things a bit, those 4x divorce pipes, that diffuser...

If only they made the S4 'chunkier' and more aggressive. Then again the B7 S4 was also quite tamely designed and unassuming, besides the mags, quad exhaust and chrome side mirrors.

One would not have expected a 4.2L V8 plant under the hood, like they would an RS4 (chunky, aggressive, has a presence).

The A5 seems to have the greater benefits overall (less costly, considerably better looking, ability to extend the freeway plan beyond the S4's date, is the facelift model), and I think that should you get bored with it before the Freeway Plan runs out, you'll have a better resale value on it.

Agreed. If it was my money, I'd go for the non-facelift. Same car inside and 90% of the outside. And I do love those LED dots, gives the A5 pre facelift an awesome presence and 'wide' look.

Also, the 2.0T doesn't have a bad exhaust note at all, and the B8 S4 does have a reputation of being a bit too quiet- certainly no match for your current B6(?) S4.

I can vouch for this, my 2.0T sounds great (like a GTI) and turns heads but can be a bit whiney/tinny when the revs are high and slowly coming down. Downpipe and freeflow fixes this, but I won't be modifying my babe.

I have the same S4 (B8) - looks identical. The S4 (B8) although not great as the previous V8, has a very nice sounding exhaust note.

Pricewise, seems great too - the examples on Autotrader that match the bill are around R360,000.00. So a R57,000.0 saving over the retail.

EDIT : It is early 2012 ; pre face lift
