I've always had a problem with my PC, whereby the back audio jack (directly connected to the motherboard) provides very soft sound - about half that of the front jack (on the case) which provides full, proper sound.

Any ideas as to what could be causing it or how I can fix it?? I am sure my headphones aren't at fault, as I have tried numerous sets and I have always kept both my AC and HD audio drivers from Realtek up-to-date. I do have a config utility, but I can't find any settings that look as though they might be either causing the sound difference, or could assist in fixing it.

Case is a Coolermaster HAF 922 and motherboard is an EVGA P55 SLI.

Back connection is probably a line out, whereas front panel could be a higher level headphone out. Only thing I could think would be what I'm sure you have already done, which is to set your rear connection is headphone, rather than line out.

Also, you should only have HD audio drivers, and not also AC97. That could be causing the issue.

The controller options in speaker properties say "Realtek HD audio", so i think the driver is fine. Unless you think the installation of the other a while ago could be causing a conflict? If so, would it not be synonymous with the front panel?

Where is it that I check the setting for the headphones and line out?
