Audio Problem

My sister got a pc about two and a half years ago from Chaos computers, with XP Home loaded on and all devices working correctly.

Recently we formatted and reinstalled everything as it was getting a bit sluggish. After installing all the drivers that come with the motherboard, the audio would not work, where it had before. So I downloaded the latest RealTek drivers and they would not work either. I have Googled this problem but nothing seems to help.

I tried doing a windows update but it found no updates at all, not even a small Security Update, let alone audio driver updates. I unistalled problem devices in device manager, restarted, in the hope it would find something. It lists all the audio codecs and what not in device manager but it will not play anything in Winamp, WMP or sound and audio devices.

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong or where the problem lies?
It's a MSI P4M900M3 board with a RealTek ALC888 audio chip.

Thanks

Have your tried downloading the drivers from MSI website? Are you sure the sound card is in the device in device manager, and is it OK (no errors). Is the sound card enabled in the BIOS?

Just did a client's PC today .... same Mobo (From Chaos :) ) .... had no problem at all with the audio.
Did not use the MB Driver CD though .... we always have the latest drivers on backup for most boards.

Glad you got it sorted ;)
