Since Friday afternoon, I have been unable to connect to any of my 3 ISPs.

They all have "Error 678: The remote computer did not respond" in Windows.

My phone line works and the ADSL sync light on the modem is solid, meaning its connected to the exchange.

It looks like a RADIUS problem.

Anyone else having problems in the Rivonia, Sunninghill area?

i live in Honeydew and I had the same problem with all my IS based accounts...my saix accounts are fine. Dunno about now, still need to go home and try.

if you have a router just check that it didn't reset perhaps(esp if u get power failures). If the router reset and the default setting does not have bridging enabled u will also get a 678.. incl when ur network settings are very wrong(some people with amazing luck get it working even with wrong tcp/ip settings).

A 678 error exchange side is sometimes exchange link problem affecting all in ur area or just your port faulty. So its easy to guage where the fault lies when everyone in the area complains ;)

Had the same kind of problem, turns out my Telkom circuit number changed, thus could not connect because of protection on the ISP side, marrying my circuit number to my account.

The router is fine. Its in bridging mode. All TCP/IP settings on computers are correct.

Telkom called and said there is a problem in the area. All I can do is sit and wait until they fix it.

I was at a friend's place on Saturday in Tana rd Sunninghill trying to fix the 678 problem. No success. Still down this morning from Friday. Ridiculous!!

It seems that the Sunninghill exchange quite often goes on the blink for ADSL users. At last count it was six times in the last three months.

Mine's fine again now.

They fixed it on Sunday afternoon.

Agreed about Sunninghill exchange, it seems to go down alot...
