Upgrading my set up and need something that supports 4K/120 HDMI 2.1 ports (my current AVR doesn't).

I would have loved to get one of the newer Sony receivers but you cannot buy those over here apparently, so think I've narrowed my options to these:

- Onkyo RZ50
- Marantz Cinema 60

Similar pricing, the Onkyo offers more but is not as a "premium" product as the Marantz. I currently have a Marantz and while I'm happy with it I'm not a huge fan of the tiny round screen as it's almost entirely useless, and the Cinema 60 has the exact same pitiful screen.

Which one would you get?

Also, has anyone ever ordered from AVE audio (https://www.ave1994.com/) before? They have suspiciously high Google ratings (only 5 stars) and their prices are also quite a lot better than most other places online. There is definitely some suspicion for me but no evidence that there is anything dodgy going on there and the site has been going since 2019.

AVE import their own stuff, and provide their own warranty. So it's a grey import, hence why their prices are so good.

Yep, they are upfront about this on their (dodgy looking) website, they don't specifically use "grey import" but I guess you deduce that from their wording.

This does however is maybe limiting when it comes to warranty/service, as if they ever go bust I doubt any other place would be interested in helping with it. I guess that's a decision I need to weigh.

AVE is legit. I have dealt with them.

Vuaghan is super helpful. He is the guy behind Bentley Acoustics.

Regarding the AVR. I recently got a Denon AVR-X2700 and am happy. Paid R10k from Francois The Hi-Fi Guy

Has Onkyo sorted out their HDMI issues? I seem to remember they had a bit of a reputation for failure in the past.

Yeah, i had one, all HDMI outputs failed.
That was probably 10 years ago, it must be fixed by now?

no HDMI 2.1 yet, but ito sound quality, this is most excellent

I was looking at the Anthem stuff but nothing local in my budget that has HDMI 2.1.

no HDMI 2.1 yet
That's a hard requirement, the main reason I'm upgrading.

What is your budget? You'd be hard-pressed to find better value than in the second-hand market like with The Hi-Fi Guy.
All my AV stuff I have bought second-hand over the last 10+ years.

The only thing I bought new was an Optoma UHD38x a few months ago, hence the reason I got the Denon. My old AVR was 1080P.

The Marantz and Onkyo are both R28 600 from AVE. So max R30k is the ballpark.

I'm not really interested in a used AVR, especially not ones that have been connected to our power grid.

IMHO
If you listen to more music than movies then marantz cinema 60 otherwise Onkyo because it has DIRAC room correction as standard, no extra payments or updates like other manufactures
