Average Speed Cameras N3 Durban Bound

apparently the people charging past us in the average speed trapping zone have figured out that if you slow down enough before the cameras at either end, you won't get caught.

the other thing i wonder about is the cameras on the taxi lane on the m4 and n3 in and out of durban. if that works, then they must be making a fortune in fines. but something tells me it's silver painted toilet roll tubes with clingwrap over the end, because it's been a while now and i still see about tons of people in that lane when i go to/from work.

Yeh, actually I have a well-heeled business associate who works in Durban central. He charged in and out of Durbs in the bus lane until his accountant called him in to look at R17k worth of fines for doing this. However this was two years ago so not sure if they still work. Given the number of @ssholes that use it whilst the rest of us gimps sit patiently waiting for the traffic to move I'd say the cameras are out of operation..

Anyways, I also find that when they do roadworks, they put up dummy cameras to scare you into driving like a granny.

Those fckin things scared the hell out of me & my sister the other say. Roadworks, 60km/h temp sign but the (single lane) traffic is pushing 120k/h. My heart stopped for a second there... 120 in 60 zone is already well into jail time territory.

One can't rely on that roadworks thing though...my dad got a fine like that a few years back. Temp speed sign says 60km/h in a 80 zone...and the fckers adjusted the stationary speed cam down to the temp 60km.

A flaw in the cameras.... They can't track you if you change lanes.

I really would not rely on that. These systems are custom design, so the chances of a flaw present in the UK system being here too aren't all that good. In fact the designer would have to be properly thick for that trick to work.
