Hi,Firstly,if I posted in the wrong place,my apologies.

I'm going to study LLB via Unisa,if I get a job by January in Gauteng,I'll go work there,if not,I'll try again after a year or two's experience working at a small local law firm.

But my question is,how do I get into specializing in Aviation law ? As far as I saw unisa doesn't make provision for that, only possibility there is specializing in International Transport. Please don't tell me why I shouldn't go into Aviation law and all that blah blah yada yada stuff :).

I would appreciate any suggestions, and if somebody has a contact for me,I would appreciate that too.

Thanks in advance.

you get you LLB and then you do some specialization as a postgraduate

Firstly, proper use of commas and spacing is key. You won't get past the door if your CV looks like that.

Secondly, aviation law is an extremely niche area in SA. I personally can count on my one hand the number of attorneys who specialise in it, and all of them are pilots too. Your best bet is to apply for articles at such a firm.

You say you are starting your LLB but want a job in January? Only thing you might get, AFAIK, is ad hoc vacation work. You won't be hired as an article clerk without your LLB.

Don't lie to the youngun now Izzy, he's becoming a lawyer... surely when he registers for his LLB people will just pay him huge amounts of money and give him the keys to a Ferrari?

Of course. If Mike can do it in Suits, so can anyone ;)

That's not entirely true. You can register for articles while still completing your degree. I have quite a few friends that are completing their articles/degrees simultaneously. However if you do this, the article period will be longer than the standard two years that most CA's register for.

Firstly,I am a "she",and this is not a English exam. My brother is an HR manager,so my CV is perfect.

Secondly,to get in at one of the local law firms in this small town, you just have to walk through the door, and say you know the local Doctor and Priest.

Thirdly,I don't necessarily want to do my articles,an admin lady or anything like that will do. But do tell me more x32 about that statement.

PS. I got an A in English,and I want a Jaguar,not a Ferrari ;)

Oh and I have a contact within Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs, aka ENSAfrica, you know, the biggest law firm in Africa, and they have an Aviation division.

All you need to do your articles is to have matriculated - but it will take 5 years of articles for admission
a bachelors degree reduces that to 3 and the LLB only lobs off a year required for articles

in reality though securing a principal with which to do your articles without an LLB is the challenge - but the Attorneys Amendment Bill will modify that dynamic a little bit so there might actually be a batch of non-LLB attorneys coming up through the system.

That was the idea :D

Coming from someone who is bipolar, who would have gone into depression from replies like these previously,I do enjoy "hitting" back,or being "cocky" now. :)

Well I will bee studying like 7 years if I study part time ... So do I just contact law firms and see who can accommodate me ?

It was meant not to belittle you, but as constructive criticism. Don't be immediately so defensive, it won't serve you well.

I should surely know ENSafrica, since that is where I am soon to become a partner. So who is your contact again? :P

I am aware of the many 'alternative' routes to becoming an attorney, none of which are popular any more - at least within the big 5 firms.

Admitting to be of the female sex on a tech forum .., - there is an entire subculture on this

Probably not a good idea to use the local is lekker route - the mere suggestion makes me think that you'll be trained into being a magistrates' office moron

I am looking for a secretary for the office .... its an ISP although it will also include typing and stenography so I don't have to write out my pontificating

zero remuneration and a ****ty boss (who has strange idiosyncricies - like referring to himself in the third person), but you'll get to read a lot of law reports and make sure that I don't miss bizarre last minute deadlines

What was your Latin mark ;) :p

So why do you want to be in "aviation law" ...

O I forgot why the job is tied to aviation - it will involve frequently fetching your boss from the airport and dropping him off

Well congratulations !!!

I understand if you do not reply to this if you feel my reaction was inappropriate,I still have far to go,so I admit I was wrong. This is a forum, not taking this too seriously.

Like I said I have a contact, but that is technically a contact of my cousin whom is a big shot in the commerce world, she works for a bank.

I have excellent marks for a career such as law,but not for a web developer or anything IT,which was what I was brain washed my whole life to think;that is what I want to do,but I was terrible at it ! So credit to IT people !

- Suits ... It's not realistic, only watching it for Harvey  still a girl,I like my men in suits.

You could certainly try this approach but I wouldn't recommend it and I think you that you will have a tough time trying to secure articles this way.

The market is really saturated at the moment and there are countless people that have both graduated with LLB's and completed PLT courses who still haven't been able find articles. Therefore if someone is willing to take on a candidate that hasn't completed any modules towards their degree, I would assume that they probably will not be offering a great salary and/or experience.

If you're ok with that, then good luck. But my recommendation would be to wait until at least your 2nd or 3rd year before you start applying for articles.

We didn't even have a third language,oh dear oh dear, the song lies,it is not "hemel op die platteland".

Look I'm just looking to get on my own feet within 3 years, because my dad is retiring in 3 years, and he already has debt to pay from putting 3 other children through university. I'll do what I can do.

Aviation is just a dream.
