Axiz and XFX 8800 GT

Man this sucks... I just phoned Axis to query a graphics card that is just out of warranty and has a faulty fan (it's not seized, it just will not power - I've tested it with an external PSU). I asked if they can help out with a replacement cooling unit or fan but they point blank said sorry...

so...

I asked "if my 4 grand graphics card's fan packs up out of warranty, do I throw it away?"

They said "Yes, that's how it works"....

I am now going to drill some holes in the cooling unit and mount my own external 12v DC brushless fan...

Anyone have a faulty one with a working fan for sale?

Did you mean Axiz? Because Axis make IP Security Cameras, amongst other things!
 
Ok - well it would be great if they are available... but i took this thing apart and it's no ordinary setup - it has the ram in a semicircle around the CPU - how do I mount a generic cooling unit? (See the pic in my first post).

So where does one source these things?

Here you go. Digital Addiction, a local supplier, has Zalman and Arctic Cooling GPU coolers.

Or try looking at the complete list of GPU coollers on their site.

Normally these 3rd party coolers come with extra heatsinks that you have to stick on the card. Check the Zalman link in my first post. Way at the bottem they've got a pic of all the stuff you get in the box. You can see the RAM heatsinks.

They come with proper directions so it's not an issue.

Why not consider the Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo :)
 
The Zalman VF-900 works really well on the 8800GT's. You might also want to buy a pack of Zalman graphics ramsinks for the ram-chips (arranged in a semi-circle as you stated). I did this little swapout because the default fan on the 8800GT is a wailing monster. It works very well and quietly.

Mounting the VF-900 is slightly tricky, so just be very patient and make 100% sure that you understand all the instructions

But I'm assuming you just want something cheap to make your card work ... I think the ZALMAN VF1000 LED would be a direct competitor to the Arctic Cooling.

I don't see how the installation could be any simpler?
