So I experienced this yesterday as well as a friend of mine and am still waiting for axxess to get back to me.

Got a mail @ 17:30 that my cap was down to 3.47GB, didn't think much of it as it was fine for the balance of the month. Got a second mail @ 18:01 stating cap was down to 700MB and now I started looking. Checked the machines on my home network for running downloads and all were off ( I run scheduled downloads/updates between the free period of 12am - 6 am ). Then at 18:15, received the last mail that I was capped. Tried to call in to the call center and they confirmed the cap and that I had been downloading all day or alternatively suggested a virus.

Now the machines ( there are two on constantly ) are both virus and malware scanned daily. I also forced a full scan to double check again. I then activated my free 1 gig account with my router and monitored. Here is where the fun starts, there was no excess traffic on the 1Gig account. So without changing anything on my network or machines, suddenly this "huge download" stopped. I was then able to check my usage logs and that found further issues with the transactions.

Following the timeline, my account had the below:

17:30 - 3.45GB left
18:00 - 700MB left
18:15 - 0GB left

Whats also amazing is that the account is a basic 2Mbps account. In an initial reply from support, I was asked to substantiate why I say the data was missing and not used. Firstly, a person can't prove a negative. No logs or history show any downloads running at the time they claim I did and the session data from their side only shows a total from the previous night with no breakdown in hourly etc. Secondly, could they please explain how a 2Mbps account is able to download 3.45Gb in 45mins? Max throughput is only about 900MB an hour.

Another astonishment is suddenly my account this morning, is sitting at 800MB available. Where did that come from? Especially as I was capped last night at 18:15? I spoke to a colleague of mine who also has an axxess account and he said similar happened to him yesterday: received an email that he was down to 1GB and suddenly this morning he's back up to 4GB remaining. Has anyone else experienced this yesterday? I'm still awaiting further feedback from support, but response times seem to be lacking.

The same thing happen to friend of mine who is with axess. He downloaded after midnight but it kept chewing his daytime data.. Also last night he was compaling about cap just disappearing of the network when he is not even connected

I have hear a few others today as well. With the lack of response, I'm thinking of heading back to afrihost if their network issues are now resolved.

Maybe Axxess was hacked as well and someone is using your account ;). It was said that it was an upstream provider that was hacked... Just a conspiracy theory on my end

I would change my WI-FI password immediately, you never know.

Get http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/member.php/241270-The-Axxess-Lady to have a look at it for you in the mean time.

That was done a while ago but also the setup is quite well locked down : password + MAC filtering on wifi. Also checked all leases and stations, nothing abnormal. They need to still respond regarding the 3.5Gb download in 45mins with a 2Mbps link, that and the fact that the 1Gb account wasn't drained, points to an issue their side.

Got some feedback now that apparently they had issues with their cap system and sent out late notices. I've asked for an hourly traffic breakdown still because nothing I have downloaded the amount of data they said I did unless it's calculating the "free" period.

Suspended renewal of account until resolved. Hourly breakdown clearly shows consistent speed download during the day for a particular session from start to finish which my machines never did and goes against the all other session patterns for the month. I've asked for detail but am not getting a response and still no proper explanation for the sudden re-appearance of data.

Nope, also configured for same time period.

All updates, p2p, downloads, steam etc locked for those six hours. Been working perfectly for months.

Also ran full netstat on my machines at the time to check open connections. Nothing untowards.

Hmmm... as there was a Steam issue with the featured page downloading every 15sec even if minimized.

According to the hourly breakdown the excesive data use coincides with a new session that was started. That session ran all night and day from inception without a break until it killed the account. However once I switched the account to the free gig it stopped. Can't see how it would be anything on my lan then.

Well looks like they would rather lose a customer than resolve the issue. If still not resolved by tommorow, will be shifting for July, beauty of non contracts, month to month and eft.

Also with Axxess and strangely received an Email from them last night stating that I'd requested a password reset when I hadn't, might be worthwhile changing your password as there may be someone up to no good.

Please PM us your account number so we can look into this asap. All the problems with the capping system has been resolved.

Still not resolved, still insisting I utilized the account in the manner even after confirming they had multiple issues.

Have moved anyway, not worth puting up with this nonsense.

Experienced the same here a couple weeks back. Have software monitoring wifi etc. and there were no breaches, it was from the ADSL. I just left it, who could we complain too in this place? pfff Now that I see others are saying similar, interesting.
