Axxess Express+ account suspended

Just received an SMS stating 'Dear Axxess Subscriber, (username) is suspended due abuse (illegal software).

Anyone else got this and know what it's about? The only 'illegal software' that's run is eMule.

I'm en route to work so can't check if the account is still working.
 
I got the same thing this morning I would like to know, if there is a way to encrypt torrents in SA so that I.S cant see what im downloading ?

maybe some type of SSL, or some other method?

the thing I dont understand about axxess is that on their site they have lists of people who use their uncapped accounts who download something like 900gigs a month , which I dont see how that is possible, but theres no way that is all "legal" stuff
 
As far as I know Peer Guardian was run and obfiscation used in eMule. The question is whether the account is now disabled or if this was just a warning?
 
they replied to me saying

"Please ignore that email, it was only a warning.
Your account has not been suspended."

i got the same email from Axxess. Whats up with that?! Bitorrent protocol was written in my email.

Seems it was just a warning. Just strange since they never did SMS'es before. Account is still working.
 
Axxess will shoot themselves in their foot if they continue this trend.

I know of people who barely know what "an internet" is, but someone showed them how to download songs with torrents... and I'm pretty sure they're as ignorant to piracy as the next guy is... denying their internet access is the equivalent to a little kid poking a hornets nest....
 
Its just warnings. And its not Axxess, its coming from their upstream provider prob IS (you should see the first email being sent to [email protected]

Its some American companies that pose as Torrent clients so they get the peer list, and they then get the ISP's for those IP addresses fro the peer list and send them warnings on behalf of the Movie/Software companies.

In other words its come very clever lawyer-type guy in the US who is now getting paid a truckload to supposedly "track down and serve legal documents" to the internet terrorist who dared to download House Season 6!

Also, note they're getting you on uploads. So one thing to do is ensure you kill your torrent when its d/l. Although, thats not fair since torrents are about sharing...

In any case, encryption wont help. They dont look at the data, they check who are peers on the torrent which has to be available to all otherwise no peers would know who the others peers are.

As dudleygb said...go usenet or other system. Seems Torrents are getting to be a pain.

Oh yes and for the time being this can only be a warning to SA citizens. Nothing more. For the time being....
 
Firstly, they have no right to stop you using BitTorrent, it's merely a technology, they can't stop you from using it just because it "could" be used for illegal downloading. The same could be said for FTP, email, or any other internet protocol that can be used for sharing files.

Secondly, if you are being accused then you should demand absolute proof of any wrongdoing from your accusers. Times, IP addresses, names of files, places, people, what qualifies them to accuse you, etc, etc.

My guess is that this proof will not be forthcoming because it doesn't exist, or is circumstantial at best.

Actually, the proof does exist. Big movie houses join the torrent network with special clients that log all torrent traffic to and from them.

So, a new blockbuster movie is released, the movie house seeds a fake or real copy, or join a download from another person and logs all IP addresses with the time for all the peers that try to download or upload that torrent from them.

So, they have the time you were downloading, the file you were downloading, and even your torrent stats, how much you downloaded and uploaded (share ratio) and your IP.

Now they contact the owner of that IP, in this case Internet Solutions, and it is up to IS to do something about it.

Thankfully at the moment all IS does is pass on the moan letter to you. But at some point in time international pressure may force them to take more drastic steps.
 
WoW ... time to stop using my main account for downloading locally? Can they actually stop this?
